pain in left side under rib cage

by rdee, Oct 16, 2008 10:26PM
I have read many concerns about
pain on left side under rib cage.
I have the same concerns, but I
have noticed that when I eat
something sugary like ice cream
or cookies I start hurting. Do you
have any thoughts on this?

Thank you.
Robyn

My left-sided discomfort moved to the right side within six months and became pain.  My GI diagnosed the left-sided pain as IBS.  My primary care Doc thought it could be refracted pain.  As it turned out, I had gallstones in the gallbladder and common bile duct as well as a dilated and obstructed bile duct.  Two years later, I've had my gallbladder removed (and a ton of other procedures) but the pain is extreme and continues.  If I could go back and do it all again, I'd keep a log of what I eat and when I have symptoms.  I'd also take Metamucil daily (it keeps you regular and helps some people with IBS).  Good luck and Godspeed!

I was soo worried about it because all I could think of is OMG cancer, because it wasn't really hurting that I couldn't go to work. It felt like an extra bone under my rib cage hitting my organs. Very strange, but anyways I found what that extra bone is :)) ha ha its kidney stones.

Hey RED88:
Are you feeling better at all?  What are they doing for your kidney stones?
All the best,

Right now i am just drinking cranberry tea and a lot of water. My kidney stones are not so big so i am hoping to pass it. I am not in the pain anymore THANKS GOD, but i am having another ultrasound in 3 weeks to see if they are still there. I also heard that bier is good for kidneys because it makes you go a lot :) (With some lemon.)

I'm thrilled to hear that he pain is better.  Let me know how your ultrasound goes if you have a chance?  If I were you, I'd lay off the beer and switch to Kool-Aid with half the sugar.  Anything that you enjoy that is non-carbonated with a low acidity level sounds like a pretty safe bet.  I hope the stones are passed and your troubles are past.

Yeah, I still don't know what my problem is.  I have the most insane pain on my right side near the center of my ribcage.  I've gained about 40 pounds.  I had my gallbladder removed.  Then I had a procedure called a sphincterotomy.  I've got great medical care.  About five months ago, I started to have problems moving around.  I couldn't get up or walk without a great deal of effort.  I finally had a couple of decent days a month or so ago.  I linked it to antibiotics.  I'm almost finished a new course of antibiotics and I went out of the house with my husband yesterday.  We went to the mall and had dinner.  It's the first time I've been out in a year.  The antibiotics aren't helping the pain but they sure do work on the mobility, nausea and vomiting.  Anyway, I feel so lucky to have hope again.  I've been feeling like I'm going to die everyday for over six months now and I was worried.
Take care of yourself Nina and let me know how you make out?
All the best,
Sam

I am sorry Sam just don't give up keep trying to find what it is. It has to be something maybe stress or anxiety?? because i had all those symptoms and it was all anxiety. I was in alot of pain for 9 months and still not fully recovered. I thought i was going to die too. I hope you ll find out what it is. In two days i have my ultra sound i ll let you know what happened.

Hey Nina:

Love your new picture.  It's great to almost meet you and see you smiling!  Best of luck with the ultrasound!

It's just my opinion but, from our correspondence back and forth, you seem like a level-headed woman.  I'd be very surprised if "anxiety" was the cause of any of your troubles.  Although, I'm sure the pain from kidney stones is causing a lot of anxiety.  Hopefully, they've passed or are passing.  Is your neck still sore?

Don't worry about me, I'm doing really well right now.  I have new pain meds and I'm actually comfortable.  I refuse to give up and I honestly believe I'll find my answer.

Hope your son is doing well.  All the best to you and yours!  Good luck and Godspeed!

I saw my Doc yesterday and she adjusted my pain meds and it seems like the new dosage is going to be perfect.  The pain is still there but it's manageable.  I've also been accepted at the Liver Center.  I didn't even think I'd get in but I have an appointment at the end of April.

So, it's pretty much all good.

I still mostly feel like **** but I am hopeful that I've got a plan of action.

I hope you are well soon and I'm glad the pain is staying away.

Feel free to write if you want to chat or vent!

All the best,

Sam
