red in stools?

hi, the other day i noticed a red colour in parts of my stools. i wondered if it could be something id eaten, but i hadnt eaten anything unusual or different. I have irritable bowel syndrome and i think my stomachs been worse lately because iv been more stressed with exams coming up. but my brother was diagnosed a little while ago with IBD (uc).
what do u think this could be? should i just wait to see if it happens again? thanks

At the risk of stating the obvious, if you are in doubt then do seek medical advice.  Tomato skins are one possible source but there are other red-tinted foods that could be responsible.

Rectal bleeding can include "free flowing blood", minor bleeding (such as haemorrhoids) or semi-solidified blood lumps/streaks buried in - or on the surface of - your motions.

Don't let the matter drift if you continue to be concerned.

If red matter is contained in your motions then the source is most likely to originate from either undigested food (e.g. tomato skins etc) or from blood.  If indeed you are suffering from rectal bleeding then do seek medical advice since this is not normal.
