Hi. I have suffered from constipation as well. Has he added fiber to his diet? Lots of high fiber foods and lots of water. I also take Citrucell daily, which is a fiber supplement. I also drink prune juice.... takes some getting use to but helps. If it continues, I would have him discuss with his doc. Hope this helps.
Hi, I am a nutritonist. First of all, he has to try this for more than a few days. There are people who I have helped with chronic constipation who got better after changing their diet AND taking a probiotic. He must do both, consistantly and from now on. Not just temporarily. First, cut out all the junk food. No candy, cookies, potato chips, none of that. And no refined grains like white bread, white noodles, white rice. Switch from cow's milk to soy milk. "Silk" is a good brand. He needs to eat a whole, natural foods that are high in fiber. This will not only benefit his bowels but his whole body (and yours too). He needs to eat things like soy milk with whole grain cereal (Kashi brand makes good ones) for breakfast, sandwhiches on whole wheat bread for lunch, raw vegetable salads, brown rice with stir-fried vegetables and chicken. Get it. Lots of fiber. No foods that have NO fiber like dairy products, sweets, white bread, etc. Get the book, What Would Jesus Eat by Dr. Don Colbert. You can get it from his web site. And have him start taking a probiotic called Primal Defense Ultra. Get the capsules. This will restore the good bacteria in his gut. Everyone with bowel problems has an imbalance of bad bacteria. As far as getting relief from his constipation while he's making these dietary changes, have him buy Ducalax laxatives and Ducalax rectal suppositories (or their generic twins). Good Luck!
