I'm not sure what cloudrunner was trying to say, but blood is NOT always mixed in the stool and our intestines are not supposed to be raw flesh and bleed easily! On the other hand, it does not have to mean anything dire either. If the blood is red, it indicates there is some bleeding most likely close to the anus, which could mean a hemorrhoid situation. Straining due to constipation and large stools could cause some tearing and bleeding. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point. If it continues, a colon check is never a bad idea, especially if you have colon cancer in your family. More troubling would be black stools which means there could be what's called occult blood, or bleeding farther up the channel somewhere.
Blood is always mixed in stool because your intestines are raw flesh and bleed easily. If however you can see it, that means there's an excess amount. If you feel any long term pain or continue to see excess blood, you should see your local Doctor.
