went to emergency room for vomitting and diarrhea, no change yet.

Long story short, i have been suffering from diarrhea and vomitting for almost three weeks now. The diarrhea started off being after i ate, immediately. (5-10 minutes after). I couldn't keep anything down and went to the emergency room. I had to get an iv drip and they took blood tests and said that i was fine and to go home. They gave me antibiotics (ciprofloxacin), lomotil, and zofran. Since coming home the diarrhea has gotten better, slightly. Color has changed from green to now an orangish and almost brown color, which from what i read from the papers the hospital gave me is an improvement. It said that color depends on how long it actually stays in your digestive system, green to orange to the normal brown. It also is becoming more solid as days go by. I had to stop the cipro after two days because it turns out i am allergic to it and had severe reactions, although the hospital said to keep taking it I stopped on a recommendation from my normal doctor. My problem though is, i still cant eat. I can handle ensure, pudding, rice, bananas, powerade and ginger ale, mashed potatoes, and chicken fries, but all really only in small amounts. Needless to say i am dizzy alot and very weak and trembly. I try my best to eat, but i honestly cant. and my urine is colorless now, which the doctor said is from lack of nutrients. I am making an appointment with a gastroenterologist but it may be two or more days before they can squeeze me in. I just want advice on what to do until then, or what the problem may be. the hospital wont tell me anything and they say nothing is wrong. But obviously there is or else they wouldnt have given me medicine. I just need some sort of answer or advice to help me along until i can see a specialist, for anxieties sake.

Set up with a heart monitor today and they did some tests. Had an ekg and an echo. But they have to get back to me on that. Gave nr some beta blockers for when my palpatations start amd said my monitor will record everything for 30 days. So we just gotta try snd catch it and see what's happening.

I am more hydrated than i have been in a very long time. The doctor today told me that getting hydrsted again takes longer than i would think and that from what he sees i'll be just fine. He says i haven't gotten fully hydrated yet but i will be just fine in a day or two. And turns out that the dizziness and akmost passing out is because of my heart rate increasing and palpitations. It isn't dangerously high, but it's the fact that it lasts for hours and when i am at rest. So i am being referred to a cardiologist now (especially with my family history). So that for now is my main concern because my heart rate os keeping me from sleeping, which in turn keeps me from getting over being sick quickly. So blah.

If you are truely allergic to wheat and flour, then there is no way you can grow out of it.  If you have an intolerance to wheat and flour (known as celiac disease), you also can't grow out of it.

I have no idea why actually. They never even said what was wrong. They just saod alot of people had come in with the exact same problems so i guess it was just a bug floating around. As for now though i am getting better. My problems have stopped and im at the recovery point now with trying to get my energy and appetite back. I actually have been eating bananas and rice. For a while that is all i could get down. Im going to a specialist in a couple weeks either way, mainly because i am allergic to wheat and flour and although i have mostly grown out of it, we think it made me even more sick and harder for me to keep things down. So time to get an update on that. Also in response to the other post, even after i stopped taking the ciprofolaxin the side effects continued periodically for another 24 hours or so, but now it is completely out of my system amd all is well.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  Do you know why the doctor put you on antibiotics?  I agree with you that it is a very good idea to see a gastroenterologist about this.  In the mean time, I would recommend easy small amounts may times a day of all the foods you can tolerate and that are easy on your stomach, like you are already doing.  Make sure to get enough sleep and try to not overstress your body with too much exercise or stress.  Also, a BRAT diet for diarrhea is good which is bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast.
