to answer question 1 don't worry i work with an ophthalmologist and we dilate patients every day, the dilation lasts about 3-5 hrs max 4-6 so you'll be fine, the vision will be blurry you will only be able to see up close everything that is at a distance will be blurred so you'll be fine, so the calling off work would be a day without pay you'll be fine with vision the next day
Your eyes should be back to normal by morning - the dialation can last 6-8 hours sometimes and will definitely feel worse if you're out in the sun, so stay inside as much as you can and defnitely wear the eye protection they gave you whenever you do go outside and even inside if you find that they lights are bothering. Your vision should clear up as the dialation meds wear off.
If you're really having trouble seeing from the drops, you shoudln't drive, so I would say if you're still having troublein the morning, you either need to have someone else drive you to work or call in sick - however, I don't think it should be a problem by that time.
If, on the off chance, that you ARE still having troubles in the morning, put a call in to the eye doc's office and let them know what you're experiencing and ask their advice and ask if you should be seen again.
