I presume that since she is married and not using any birth control. I note she has not become pregnant. That is often true for people with cystic ovaries. I runs in my husband's family.
I was going to suggest it was a cyst, when you said it for me.
I am having simliar problems, and I went to the er and found out that i have 7 cysts on my left ovary, the pain was caused from one of the bursting, Sex is very painful for me and my doctor told me that this was just part of having the cysts and eventually they will burst of i will have to have surgery to have them removed, I would have her request a vaginal ultra sound to see if she has any cysts or anything else
she just had an ultrasound and it came back normal. She has had a migraine for two days now and to no avail it is still going on. don't know what to do, they believed she had sinus or allergy problems but nothing has changed. going to suggest that to her for when she sees the doctor in a week. thanks for the info.
Wow, everything you have written here sounds almost identical to me at her age. I am now 36. To give you some personal background, I started my periods when I was 14 and they were extremely painful and though not as erratic, very heavy. I would have excruciating ovulation pains and menstrual pains. It was determined that I had ovarian cysts and put on the pill at that young age. I took the pill for 17 years and then stopped after discovering I had abnormal (cancerous) cells on my cervix, which had to be partially removed. I was not allowed to use hormonal birth control from that point onward. But, the pain returned because I was ovulating again, and it seemed much worse than when I was a teen. Sexual intercourse could be down right painful, and nothing seemed to relieve the pain short of stopping my periods again. Oddly too, I suffered with migraines also. So severe my family doctor put me on migraine medications. I do believe after all that, it had everything to do with my hormones, and later I found out that I had a pituitary growth (adenoma) or tumour. It was the cause of my period actually stopping for 2 years. I only discovered this from some blood work that was done by an endocrinologist who detected a high level of Prolactin (the same hormone found in nursing mothers) which is the reason women do not menstruate or ovulate when they are nursing. The same thing was happening to me. I was given a MRI and it showed the growth. I was then given a prescription medication called Dostinex which I took once a week for 6 months and re-evaluated at that time. My periods returned to normal, my migraines disappeared, but sadly my ovarian cysts didn't completely resolve. (I am not sure if those things are all interconnected, but I have to guess when it involves your reproductive system - such as your pituitary gland, that it is most possible.) I am wondering, has your daughter had ultrasounds to see if she has ovarian cysts? Has she had any blood work done for her thyroid or other hormonal imbalances since her period is so irregular? Sometimes the Gynaecologists and Endocrinologists or even a reproductive endocrinologists need to work together to see what exactly is going on. It's so complicated and without knowing anything further about any other tests or results, it's definitely hard to say. But that was my experience and food for thought for you and your daughter. Please let me know if this helps you and send me a direct message, as I don't follow this thread.
