Is there a danger in using a blood pressure machine when it is overly done.

On February 3, 2017 I went to my Dr. appointment and the nurse/medical assistant took my BP with the blood pressure machine.  It just kept going and going and was hurting so bad. She said the machine automatically uses more pressure if it sees high blood pressure. My arm was hurting so bad and it has been numb and tingling since. It also feels bruised inside or else she has pinched a nerve. I called my Dr's office twice about it and each time I get the person who took my blood pressure. She tells me the Dr. is with a patient and will call me back when she can. I still have no call back. Today this nurse told me I should go to Urgent Care, that they can get me an a scan or x-ray. I told her I want to talk to my Dr. to see is I should do that or what I can do to make my arm feel normal again. It has now been 25 days now and I still don't have normal function and I'm scared. I am a 66 year old female.

Especially in elder persons, blood pressure measurements can be experienced as painful. This is even more the case when the person has a high systolic blood pressure.
Of course I do not count you in the elder person's category. :-) Also younger persons can experience it.

The cuff is inflated above a systolic blood pressure so the arteries in the upper arm are fully blocked.
A higher pressure of the cuff is needed when the person has higher systolic blood pressure.

In some cases, the pressure can lead to bruising of tissue in the upper arm.

In your case, if it is bruising, it seems severe and I would certainly have a doctor look at it.

I.m.o. the behaviour of the assistant that took your bp leaves much to be desired, to say the least.

You could make an appointment with your doctor and just mention arm pain as the reason for your visit.  Try not to discuss or debate your arm situation with the staff.  When you see the doctor in private, explain how your pain came about and seek her advice.
