Lump in thigh

I have a smooth hard lump in my thigh. It's nvisible so you'd only know it was there by touching it. I noticed it a week ago and would say it's fairly new. It's pain-free except when touched a couple of times. I have no other symptoms. I've been to my gp as after a week it failed to turn in to a boil (which is what I thought it could be when I first noticed it until I realised there was no mark) they won't biopsy or refer me for a month as it's only the size of a small baked bean and they want to see if it grows.  So my question is,  should I be worried and is it normal my doctor won't biopsy/refer me? I really don't want to be worrying for ages or waiting for growth unless that is standard procedure in the uk. Thanks
