Low Vitamin D levels

I was told by my doctor that I had extremely low Vitamin D levels. And now I have to take these Vitamin D pills. How do you get low vitamin D levels and what is vitamin D used for?

I just received the same news today.  Low Vitamin D is usually a result from not enough sunshine ( do you live and work indoors during daylight hours, also sunscreen blocks the Vitamin D)  I am beginning a 2000 mg daily dose.  There are other kidney disorders, digestive disorders that do not convert Vitamin D properly back into our system. I would not worry about those right this moment.   Now that we know, taking Vitamin D, including our children can reduce many health problems including heart disease, periodontal disease, mental health, bone and digestive health.  Take the results serious and get started ASAP.  You will be fine following doctors orders!

Vitamin D deficiency is also caused by a Parathyroid problem.  Doctors are finding that most of us suffer from a deficiency of Vitamin D and Magnesium as we don't get enough  from our foods anymore.  Our food has been modified and it doesn't contain the nutrients it used to.

Hope we all get to feeling better.

Vitamin D helps the body properly absorb calcium and promote healthy bones. Vitamin D deficiencies have been linked to seasonal depression, bone diseases, muscle pain, and risk of cardiovascular diseases. Poor diet and lack of sunlight are among many reasons behind vitamin D deficiencies. For example: I live in the northeast, and our population is very high in this deficiency because of the lack of sunlight during the winter. Seasonal depression is quite common during this time. By February, many of our bodies are depleted of vitamin D, causing us to be tired and moody. Thus, it is important for us to eat properly and take our vitamins if we are prone to such deficiencies, after speaking with a professional, of course. This isn't to say that taking vitamin D is a cure for depression. It can help depression associated with this deficiency, and only a doctor can determine that. Even if you aren't feeling depressed, weak, or tired, you should still follow your doctor's advice and take the pills. At the very least, it'll prevent more serious complications like cardiovascular and bone diseases.
