What's wrong with me?

Hi everyone..I posted in the HIV Prevention forum so that my risk could be assessed..but it's like, ever since I did that..I can't accepted that the incident has been judged as ''no risk''..I got tested and now I'm waiting for the results..

It feels like, since I've been tested..things have gotten worse..I've been worrying about this for 9 months now, and to be honest I thought getting tested would help a bit..but it hasn't.

I've currently got a cold, really bad headache, the whole of my upper body hurts..I have no idea if this is due to being anxious or down to possible infection..it's like..i read online about ''HIV symptoms'' and the things that I've read start to happen, as if by magic.

I suppose, I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if this is all in my head or not..I've even started staying away from my pets because I read that if you're infected, they can make you ill..

If anyone has any advice on how I can get a grip..please share it..I feel like im slowly going crazy.

Thanks..

The MedHelp HIV forums do not get into debates with other websites, and this user group follows that policy. Further, I do not permit links to or quotes of inaccurate statements that are anxiety-provoking, which is why I deleted your post.

My advice is that you stay OFF the Internet (including this forum) until you receive your test result. It is in your best interest to resist the temptation to search about HIV as you're only going to find things that provoke your anxiety. You may post your test result when you receive it, otherwise I will delete any additional comments.

Do people who have HIV experience initial symptoms in the first few weeks after infection and then..nothing for ages?

It is also to early to have symptoms related to AIDS.

Yes, symptoms of ARS never last that long. Ask to the Drs in the International Experts Forum.

Are you sure? Absolutely nothing to do with HIV?

I've read on other sites that in theory it's possible to get HIV from oral sex..but that it just doesn't happen in real life.

It's weird because..sometimes I'll be able to convince myself that there's nothing wrong..and I'll be ok for a week or so..then I get all worried again.

I really hope you're right when you say that my test will confirm that I didn't catch HIV from oral sex..

jade, I can assure you that you were not at any risk from performing oral sex. The clinic that advised you that oral sex was a risk gave you shoddy advice. I suggest you go to the HIV International forum and read the replies from Dr. Cummings and Dr. Jose from Freedom Health on oral sex questions. Neither of those doctors recommend testing for people in your situation. There has never been a convincing case of oral sex transmission anywhere in the world and you will not be the first. Your test will confirm that you did not catch HIV from oral sex.

There are multiple reasons why various sources suggest that oral sex is a risk, and the most common is the failure to distinguish theoretical risks vs. what occurs in the real world. Others include conservative stances due to legal reasons, reliance on unsubstantiated reports, failure to take into account recent studies that support that it isn't a risk, and just plain incompetence.

Hi Jade, It is good that you tested, it is always better to know. Symptoms of HIV infection start after two weeks of the infection, and last fro 2 to 4 weeks. If your risk situation was in February, then any symptom that you have today has nothing to do with HIV.

If you have tested out to 9 months that surely you are not infected. What was the time frame for you last test result? It is your health so I suggest being pro active and seeing your family doctor. I wish you good luck and imagine you are fine but keep us in the loop

Hi..I got tested last week..so yeah..now I have to wait..this is the first time I've been tested..I've been putting it off since February..I gave someone unprotected oral sex, and I have alot of ''what ifs'' in my head..

For some reason I'm having a hard time accepting what people have said - that oral sex = no risk..especially since I've read that it is a risk on other sites..

I'm trying think logically about the things I've been experiencing..like I have a cold because it's winter etc..it's just so hard..

Hi, I don't know your risk, nor if you have already tested after the window period of three months. But maybe my story can help you a bit. I had unprotected sex almost six months ago. After two weeks I began to have symptoms. First I noticed enlarged lymph nodes under my jaw. Later on I began to feel pain in my legs, then night sweat (profuse), then an enlarged lymph node in my neck, then rash in one arm, and also shaking hands and legs, and an infection in my tongue that looks like herpes. I have been really worried, as you can imagine. I couldn't sleep nor work or live. Not all the symptoms were at the same time, but one after the other (I still have some of them). However, all my test have been negative (11 tests!) including 4th generation at three months, and the last one an ELISA at five months. The point is, if you already tested outside the window period of three months, the tests are reliable, your symptoms are not HIV related. One has to stick to that think.
