I had a real risk encounter and tested for HIV 7 times, with the last one after 22 weeks: all negative. Despite that I have developed several symptoms including skin rash, soar throat, loose stools, night sweats and...a white coated tongue. Several experts, including on this forum, have assured me that if these symptoms were HIV associated, I would have tested positive. So I need to believe my test results, and so do you.
I am in therapy to deal with my fears. It helps, and maybe this could help you too if you feel your anxiety takes over.

You seem to especially worried about the white tongue. Let me tell you that I always had some white coating at the back of my tongue and my doctor always told me it is part of normal mouth flora. Some people have it, some not, but it is part of your personal 'bacterial' balance. However, if you suffer from acute or chronic stress, the balance can be impaired, and bacterial overgrowth can occur. This is what happened to me too, with my tongue being covered with thick white coating the last months. And I can scrape it off a bit, but an hour later, it is back...so I accept it as part of me, and it does not hurt, it will get better probably over time when I start to relax more.
Taking medicines such as antibiotics or antidepressants/anxiety suppressors can also change your mouth flora balance.

Apart from white coating, I also have some white and red spots at the side of my tongue. The doctors say it is not thrush and it is not oral hairy leukoplakia, two HIV associated disorders, but some kind of 'irritation' reaction to maybe specific foods. This is new, I never had it before, and it worries me also...but I accept the doctors judgment as 'not to worry about it'.

So believe your results despite the symptoms. Negative is negative.

Hi, I understand the anxiety, I still have some. But there is no risk at all in your situation. You received oral sex with a condom! Zero risk! No way to catch HIV. And the small bite you mention surely it is innocuous to. You have symptoms, but HIV can't be diagnosed through symptoms, really. Besides you have a negative test. I know how difficult is to believe you are ok when you are having symptoms (it hapens to me despite 14 negative tests, including 3rd and 4th generation ELISAs and one PCR, this is, the tests I have, look for early as well as late antiboides, for a viral protein named p24 and for nucleic acids from HIV). But the situation you mention is zero risk. According to guidelines, you do not need testing. But think that with modern 3rd and 4th generation ELISA a negative test at 6 weeks is a very very good indicator of your HIV status. Hope this helps!

Hi, you have absolutely no risk of geting HIV. Oral sex is no risk, besides you wore a condom! Absolutely no risk. About symptoms... Maybe my story can help you a bit. I had unprotected sex six months ago. After that I got really nervous. I began to develop symptoms. First, enlarged lymph nodes, then pain in the legs, then night sweats, shaking hands and legs, some rash in one arm, and an herpes-like infection on the tongue. However all my tests have been negative! Including 4th generation tests, quantitative PCR (do not do this test) and HCV test. Although I still a bit worried because all the symptoms I have had, it seems that I do not have HIV. Based on your story, you do not need testing for HIV, but for your peace of mind you can go and ask for a 3rd or 4th generation ELISA. I can bet that it will be negative. Hope this helps!
