Oral sex and Hiv

Dear friends

I already posted this in the doctor's section, but thought i would get your opinion anyway, since i feel it is a relevant issue that concerns many, especially the slight ambiguity. Basically, i went through a bad period and had quite a few occasions in which I gave oral sex and swallowed sometimes. My oral hygiene is good and i wouldn't eat 3 hours before the event.

Anyway, i have refocused my life and started a relationship. I have allowed oral sex to be performed on me but no ejaculation in the mouth and have abstained from any sex because i am slightly anxious about infection. Now i know that this forum maintains that oral sex (no matter what the situation) is no risk; i was also told this in one of my previous correspondences with one of the doctors.

Recently i read Dr Cummings stated that it is a small risk and that he knows men who's only exposure was apparently oral. Dr Hansfield also said that i had no risk for HIV but added in the post that all experts agree that transmission does occur from oral sex, even if it is rare.

Just a little confused and wondering if i am absolutely free to have sexual relations with my new partner, without any concern whatsoever and also why there might be some ambiguity?

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thanks. Nothing confirmed, just people reporting.

I can tell you that Dr.Hook and Dr.HHH both have said they have never seen anyone nor have they read anything that convinces them that it is indeed a risk.
Last I know Dr.Sean also agreed that it was no risk. Can you post the link to him saying that he knows it is a small risk? But I also notice you said Dr.Sean said apparent...which is based on patient reporting. Studies show the opposite.

Also you have to remember that people often lie about exposures. If you are a "straight" man you would probably say you got HIV from oral instead of admitting that you had anal sex. Just the nature of who we are.
