Did you end up testing negative at 12 weeks?
So you're 6.5 ELISA was all good? Did you test at 12 weeks? Came back negative?
Dr. HHH isn't alone. Check out this link:

Agree! With the negative result past 6 weeks they should feel calm knowing that there result should not (will not) change. Just better safe than sorry, I say!
Ok Got your point. We are not that far apart. My point is telling people their test at 6/8 weeks is not good enough put undue stress on them. It is the stress that is painful not only to them but their families.
As I stated in my post and Dr.HHH agreed, there are two parts to this testing. The Legal part and the Real World part. Please read below from the CDC, if you read closely even they say a test at 3 month "SHOULD BE CONSIDERD' that is a departure from needed or even stonger wording that they use to use. 6/8 weeks is all one needs, however like you say almost all of us will test out til 12 weeks.
"Therefore, if the initial negative HIV test was conducted within the first 3 months after possible exposure, repeat testing should be considered >3 months after the exposure occurred to account for the possibility of a false-negative result."
No Problem! Don't want to argue about it! I am just stating testing period as 3 months for a couple of reasons.
1. That people who test at 4, 6, 8, 11.5 weeks still seem to worry and question there result until that time. If they are going to question, why test at 11.5? Why not wait 3 damn days and get the 12 week. People Know their threshold.
2. If I stated I would give you a million dollars at 12 weeks guaranteed, or you can come to me at 6 week and i might give it to you, When would you come? Same scenario but a much bigger consequence "We are dealing with human life".
3. CDC has stated what rare cases consist of to a point, immunosuppressed, cancer, organ trans, etc. Thats why I stick with the 3 month and not the 6 month
4. You can see from my posts that I do agree that 6 week turning negative is close to impossible.
As far as a BJ. I have told people it depends on their threshold of gambling. What I consider no risk, someone else might consider a risk. 1/10,000 in my eyes is no risk but someone else might say it is.
No sense convincing you about 6/8 week "Real World" testing but why if the CDC also says 6 months arn't you folks saying 6 months. If ya'all going to be consistant, why not 6 months. The CDC says after 3 months the results are only 97% accurate. Of course that also begs the question; why then do you part with the CDC when it comes to Oral? You seem to be in the "Real World" on that subject. Have a good day
How long after a possible exposure should I wait to get tested for HIV?
Most HIV tests are antibody tests that measure the antibodies your body makes against HIV. It can take some time for the immune system to produce enough antibodies for the antibody test to detect, and this time period can vary from person to person. This time period is commonly referred to as the “window period.” Most people will develop detectable antibodies within 2 to 8 weeks (the average is 25 days). Even so, there is a chance that some individuals will take longer to develop detectable antibodies. Therefore, if the initial negative HIV test was conducted within the first 3 months after possible exposure, repeat testing should be considered >3 months after the exposure occurred to account for the possibility of a false-negative result. Ninety-seven percent of persons will develop antibodies in the first 3 months following the time of their infection. In very rare cases, it can take up to 6 months to develop antibodies to HIV.
Longone had an oral risk/low-no risk, so 6.5 week is fine. It is your responsibility, to everyone including yourself, to test out to the conclusive point of 12/13 weeks. A negative turning positive at 3 months is damn close to impossible, so why not test at 3 months. CDC states the window period. The nurse told you the rules she has to follow. Listen to her and test at 3 months. It hurts nobody by testing. It could possibly hurt someone if you don't!
You I also have tested at 5 and 6.5 I have no stress about any further testing. Will I test again, yes, why? I really don't know, I guess its brain washing. My point all along is this unrealistic 3 month thing put more stress and pain on a person than some can bare. They [cdc] really should officially drop it to at least 8 weeks. hell that's double the real time.
yea... im tired of waiting in clinics and taking blood tests.
I HAVE A SECOND CHANCE!!!! WHOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Honesty, i have tested at 4weeks and 6.5weeks.
Apparently its 0.05% chance to be infected via vaginal sex. (the body website)
I think i will put faith in "God" and assume i wasnt struck by lightning..............
The lady doesn't know whats she talking about. A Western Blot is only used as a confirmatory test.
As afr as the 6.5 week, That's up to you not some posters on this board that have a view that 3 months is the only way to go. Your 6.5 week test is all you need if YOU are satified with it. You will find just as many Dr. that will tell you 6 week is all you need as will say 3 months. Of course you could move to Massachusetts. They will tell you 6.5 you are done testing.
Also, i just found this:
"A Counselor at the Massachusetts Health Department just told me that the ELISA is 100% accurate at 6 weeks. I know nothing is ever 100% but as anyone heard about this? I thought the standard was 12 weeks for the ELISA"

What about Dr. HHH sayin that 6weeks is 100% conclusive ?
