7.5 weeks meaningless?.

Hi

I had a 'risky' incident 10 weeks ago, male to female oral, but i had been to the dentist, so had a wound in my mouth, and she bled slightly, i think i had nicked her with a nail when i was fingering her...i stopped when i saw blood but probably took some into my mouth. The bleeding stopped literally before she got to the bathroom but we stopped there. Her status is unknown.

I went to our GUM clinic (UK) at 7.5 weeks and at first the nurse told me that oral even with the blood involved HIV transmission was highly unlikely because the mouth was a 'hostile environment' for HIV. But, she gave me a hiv test.

Ive just had my results, which are negative, but the advisor i spoke to this time told me i cant read anything into the results unless 6 months have passed between exposure and taking the test???.

Is this right?. Ive probably quite irrationally got myself into a state over this. But, thinking of waiting another 3.5 months to test is awful, can i pay for a definitive test that shows earlier?.

Cheers

The nurse gave you good advice (re your risk). The advisor you spoke to when you got your results didn't (re 6 months window)

Thanks, that's pretty much what the original nurse said, she seemed to think me getting wound up over a single incident was a little silly. The 6 month quotation freaked me a little though. I guess ill go back at 13 weeks, but in the meantime ill move on with my life

Thanks again.

can somebody clarify this once and for all? Why in hell all docs say different things?
In my country they only test if you have 6months post exposure, but i hoped my docs are simply stupid. But the UK too?
This is a range from strange to scary....
Not to mention doc here on medhelp (dr HHH and all others i have read about say that even 8 weeks is good, and 3 months terrific ).
On "the body", also degreed doc ALL say only 6 months conclusive (i am sure for no risk they will say 3months ok,but if one mentions anal unprotected, they only advise 6.
Would this ever end? I've been here 7months now and all I can say i have really read enough. And i can get good arguments both for 3months and 6months.
I'm lost. really. I even read **months and nobody says this is BS.
If even docs argue bout it........it's a lost case to clarify....
     Evolutionist theory or God's hand???

hiv is not easy to get, 13 week test is all you need, your advisor may be reading from the old book.
