Abbott Antibody test

Hi,

I had vaginal intercourse with a CSW in NJ, US. She put a condom on me but it was not out of the packet. She has stored loose condoms in a condom.

After 2,weeks i had symptoms of oral herpes.

after 8, 9 weeks i had a small pimple/rahs on my shoulder. i also noticed a swollen lymphnode type of thing in my forearm (not armpit).

I went to India and had follwoing tests after 38 days of exposure:
VDRL for Syphillis: Negative
Herpes: Positive
HIV Antibody screening using Abbott Determine Recombigent Assay Kit: Negative.

Please let me know:

1. Which generation of antibody test this HIV test falls into.
2. How accurate it is and do i need to test again
3. Are my symptoms ealted to HIV.

Thanks in adavnce.
Please help

Reliability and accuracy of HIV test done in India is as good as anywhere else in the world. Believe your tests. Get it repeated after 3 months of your exposure purely for your own peace of mind and get a conclusive result.

Thanks for your response

Any relation with my symptoms and me acquiring oral herpes from her.

Any idea which generation of test it is: HIV antibody test using Abbott Determine Recombigent Assay kit. They took blood form my nerve and gave the result in 4 hours time.

I tried searching it on internet but couldnt find. I dont expect it to be better than a 2nd gen test as India is a scarce resource country.

Thanks for the quick reponse.

I am not sure which type of condom it was. She applied a lot of lubrication over it.

Any possible cause of ganglion type swelling in my forearm, It does not hurt, moves littlebit but can be felt by touching.

Thanks again

You never had an Hiv risk and never required that test. For future reference,an hiv test taken at 3 Months post-exposure is conclusive.

If you used synthetic condom and it did not fail during sex, your risk to contract HIV is not there.

Antibody tests (no matter what generation they belong to) is considered to be conclusive only after 3 month mark, though a test done after 6 weeks is said to be highly reassuring.

If you think, you had a risk (condom failure for instance) then you need to repeat it after the said period.

Your symptoms do not look like ARS. Do not focus too much on symptoms, they are misleading and not mean much in most of the cases.
