PEP efficiency

Hello. For many reasons, this is the 3 time that Im taking pep in this year. First time i took it was in Cctober 2016, the second time was in April 2017, and now I've been taking it for a week.

This last time, I had sex with a random guy, I used condom as usual, and he finished inside (I was bottom). When he took his penis out, the condom was broken. That was at 10 am on a Sunday. At 4 PM, that Sunday, I was taking PEP.

I dont know his status but even tho, i went for pep. My question is. How probably it is that my pep is going to fail because I already took it before?

Thank u very much.

You were fully advised of the risks for HIV.  Therefore, there isn't a need to continue asking about scenarios that you were advised are no-risk situations.

IF you don't have HIV, taking PEP can't cause viral drug resistance, no matter how often you take it. I trust you know that PEP is highly effective in preventing HIV, but there ARE PEP failures. There is no guarantee that PEP is going to work. .

If you've taken post-exposure prophylaxis 3 times in 12 months, it begs the question if daily pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) might be an appropriate prevention intervention for you.

You only mention taking PEP the time the condom broke, and that was the medically correct action to take. But the question remains why you took it two other times. Did the condoms break during those encounters as well? I can only hope you are not using PEP as a type of "morning after pill?"

I wish you the best outcome.

Thank you very much.
well, first time, Semen was directly into my eye and at that time, I had an injury there, so, thats why i took it
and the second time was because yes, the same, the condom broke.
but now, im seriously taking in consideration prep. Even if I always use condoms, accidents always happen.

THank you very much for your answer
HIV is instantly inactivated in air so it can't infect outside the body which makes the eye incident impossible to catch HIV.

Below is what you need to know in future so you don't take PEP too often. The only ways you can get HIV are penetrating unprotected vaginal or anal and sharing needles that you inject with. Oral sex is also not a risk. Hope this helps you cut down on taking PEP.
