Am I at risk for HIV?

Hello Doctor,

8 weeks ago I had a sexual encounter with a transexual prostitute/escort.  Her HIV status was apparently negative.  I engaged in protected anal sex insertive, as well as unprotected oral sex insertive (she gave me a blowjob).  I also french kissed her for a few minutes, the blowjob was also 5 to ten minutes, and the sex was very short as well.  Three weeks later I noticed mild lymph node swelling in my groin area, then 4  days later I had mild night sweats and chills for a night or two.  I also had what I think might have been ulcers on my gums, but it was also followed with a toothache around the area (i have bad dental hygiene).  The lymph nodes were slightly painful to the touch but swelling decreased in a matter of days and was gone within a week. No other swelling.

I know that the act was substantially lower risk than most.  I was tested at 27 days for an assortment of STIs including HIV (combo test) and it all came back as negative.

I was thinking of taking another next week to check for possible antibodies.  I have never been with a transexual prostitute before this (never will again).  Do I have anything to worry about?

The tests confirm that you never had a risk. You don't need additional testing.

So apparently I didn't have a combo test.  Really unsure, because one of the nurses stated that the blood tests done in toronto test for p24 and antibodies, but when I spoke to the infoline in toronto, they said no if you requested a p24 then that's what they gave you which is so stupid, how can someone possibly request a test they know nothing about?  Now I know, but at the time I trusted in the medical staff.

Anyways I did the rapid test at 25 days as well as a p24 test, and then I did a p24 test (if it wasn't the combo) at 27 days. Everything was negative.  Should I get tested still?

Thanks.

You had NO RISK and do NOT need to test for HIV. Your symptoms were undoubtably from a mild infection which your swollen lymph nodes took care of.

You can't develop antibodies to something that you weren't exposed to. No risk.
