CDC - RNA HIV Test??

i saw this on the CDC website....are these tests going to be used soon? what's the deal with the RNA tests?

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/testing/resources/qa/index.htm

Another type of test is an RNA test, which detects the HIV virus directly. The time between HIV infection and RNA detection is 9–11 days. These tests, which are more costly and used less often than antibody tests, are used in some parts of the United States.

My doctor actually ordered the test for me at 14 weeks post exposure. I'm from NJ so I'm sure many other states are using it. It is a very important test. It can diagnose HIV when the Antibody test fails, e.g. Patient is in the 'window period', etc.
