candom rupture during short anal sex. what is the risk?

Hi, I've read with great interest the articles o you website and I believe it's very useful. However, I still find rather puzzling some aspects of HIV transmission. I’ve been reading a lot on this topic lately since I’m very scared by something that happened to me.
I had sex with boy prostitute.  I received anal sex by the guy that was wearing a condom. After a number of attempts that irritated the anus (also causing small bleeding tears), the condom broke just at the beginning of the penetration and he immediately withdrawn it penis.. I also felt the rupture so I’m sure it occurred just at the beginning of the penetration .  Since the penetration was only superficial (it did barely occur), the time of contact of penis and anus was very short, and eventually only the pre-ejaculatory fluid may have enter in contact with the irritated mucous membranes of the anus, it’s still a high risk event?? Should the HIV test been done? I believe (hope) it’s a low risk accident, but  I’m truly scared and I can’t sleep and think correctly… I’ve to wait at least 4-6 weeks for the test, but I would like to know in advance the possibility to become HIV+ for this accident.
In the Handbook on HIV and AIDS written by Pinsky and Douglas, I read that "Two studies have isolated HIV in pre-ejaculatory fluid. Epidemiological evidence implicates only blood, semen, vaginal and cervical secretions, and breast milk as sources of transmission" and later on "Pre-ejaculatory fluid contains a significantly lower level of virus." Now, if we assume that the pre-ejaculatory fluid has only a limited importance in the transmission… am I really at high risk of HIV??
I truly hope to get an answer soon…
F.

hi! your help was great! I went to the emergency hospital in my city. luckly there was no cue. I exlained the situation in details and the doctor said exactly what you wrote to me... little risk. PEP absolutely not required since the risk was very low. just to be on the safe side, he recommend the testing after 3 months. thanks again

9seven3...

Condoms break under all kinds of circumstances, not just during vigorous sex.  Also, we don't advise that a person tests multiple times, it is a waste of time and money.  Also, test results are conclusive at THREE months, not six.

Please do not try to advise people when you don't know what you're talking about.  All it does is spread incorrect information and increase anxiety.

thank you very much!! I knew I had to do the test.. but at least now i won't be too anxiosus and I won't run to the hostital asking if it was the case to recive a PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis). In my country is night and I had anyway to wait till tomorrow morning... Your aswer helped a lot. I'll simply be patient and wait for 1 month fr the first test and for 3 onths for the final one. thanks again!

The only time a condom would burst is during vigorous sex. You didn't have sex, just an attempt to penetrate. Unless there wasn't any lubrication then perhaps. Anyway, I do see some risk with the anus and pre-cum, in fact, the anus is the main route of transmission. But becuase he was pulling away while the condom was breaking, you should be okay. Go get tested at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. Good luck!

Yes, you had a risk and need to be tested, however, your risk is not too significant due to the very brief exposure and limited penetration.

Still, to be on the safe side, I would recommend testing.  You can obtain your conclusive result at 3 months post exposure.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it if I were you.

Always be sure to use PLENTY of water based lubricant (ie KY Jelly) when having anal sex.

I knew I had tears because after the event I cleaned my anus with toilet paper and I found small stains of blood on the paper. Once the condom broke I think there was almost no penetration… he was pulling his penis and the condom broke. May be there was a superficial penetration... like only the head of the penis  (or part of it) entered for a very short time.

I have a few questions before I give my opinion. How do you know that your anus had small tears? You mentioned that there was a quick contact but how did the condom break?! There was no penetrate, right?
