Can't post to the doctor forum

My question is an STD related question.  I am a 28 year old male.

In the span of one year I had unprotected sex twice with two different women.  The last time was in January.  I have been celibate ever since.

Over the past two weeks, I have had mild pain in my left testicle and aches in my knees and elbows.  I do not feel a lump.

It hurts only when I sit.  I am a bit overweight.

I do not have night sweats, rash or swollen glands nor have I lost weight over the past 6 months, but the idea that I have HIV is scaring me.  I did get sick with swollen tonsils and fever for three days about two weeks after my unprotected sex.  But, also at that time, I moved from a city of 140 ft of elevation to 3700 feet of elevation.

Do I have a realm for concern?  I have looked at early symptoms of HIV and have displayed none of them.

Give it up buddy.  You jump in on every post I make with "don't listen to Dumbo, he is a child who does not know anything about hiv transmission" yadda yadda yadda.... then you get it back and cry foul??lol

You reap what you sew.....that is fact.

Wow, I am pleasantly surprised someone has actually had balls enough to think for themselves.  You of course are absolutely right in everything you say.  Thanks for pointing out what I have been saying for months.  Teak is not an expert.  Period.  Neither am I.  But I can read like he can.

Maybe you and I will not agree on everything, which is fine.  I am all for debate in a non insulting mature manner when presented with those circumstances.

cheers

It wasn't harassment. You want to see harassment, look at dumbo, xworiedx and your last posts. That's harassment.

I take issue with  "No one asked you for any of your false information. If they had wanted to know anything from you they would have asked...."

Here is the deal, the poster never directed who he/she wanted to answer his/her question. So game on. Teak does not own this thread, if someone wants to post, then let them post with out the harassment statements by Teak.  Why is it that he gets to own this forum?  Oh wait, because he has AIDS, I guess we just need to sit down then.

Sorry, stupid me, lets let him speak entirely, even for us at times.

There is no doubt that Teak does know more about HIV than majority of the people posting on the forum.  And I don't ever see him ever claim that he is some authority on this matter either, but he does seem to reason his thoughts out, and sometimes even backs them up with proper sources.  And I think he is doing a commandable job in giving advice to people as appropriately as he can.  I also don't see him going off tangent often on matters not related the questions asked from the people who are worried about their status.  I think he answers them directly along with few other knowledgeable people here.

One can certainly disagree on some things and still have a proper debate and conversation, but getting down to claim and fame in such matter is far too trivial and not logical in any way.  It's always been taught that when you have nothing good to say or worthwhile to others, then better to avoid the matter.

Teak,

You crack me up. You have no MD behind your name, just as most of the folks on this forum. You have no more right to claim that you are an authority of HIV than some pimply faced 13 yr old boy.

As an MD friend of mine once said to a pharmicist....  "Once you have MD after you name, then call me, to advise me on how to medicate my patients."

I have high cholesterol, but I don't claim to be an authority in that area....  Heck I breathe every few seconds, but I am no specialist in pulmanology.

Folks here can read just the same as you. You don't treat, you don't diagnose all you do is read like the rest of us. You may be a walking library and that is great, but that does not make you unique. Many others can do the same and post on this forum as they please.

No one asked you for any of your false information. If they had wanted to know anything from you they would have asked and I'm sure they don't want information for a kid that doesn't know a thing about HIV or any other disease.

For true education on HIV transmission read all posts from Dr. H not from Teak.  Teak says he is an educator in schools but the info he spreads is false and with the intent of spreading fear into people that really should not be scared of being infected by their chosen lifestyle.  Anyone (such as Teak) who says vaginal sex is higher risk than bathhouses is a nutcase.

Deflection tactics meant to portray HIV hits heteros more than those who participate in receptive anal sex and needle sharing is wrong and only hurts themselves as funding is budgeted to the wrong groups leaving the groups really at risk short of good quality care and education.

Deflection happens simply because HIV is a business, a multi billion dollar one at that.  If people were really made aware where the highest risks are, funding would dry up, except in Africa of course.  But I am speaking in regards to North America only where rates of hiv are very low on a population basis and limited to certain lifestyle choices (i.e. anal sex and needle sharing.)

Cancer rates (infections and deaths) are many many many  times higher than HIV infections and is a much more horrible disease not only to deal with but also in how quick it will take your life.

126 people is what I grew up in.  Ultra-right wing, ultra fundamentalist.

My knowledge is in history, political science and sociology, not pandemics.  So, please excuse my igornance.

As stated earlier, I'm working on a Poli Sci PhD, not an MD.  With everything out there on HIV, I get confused on what to filter and what not to.

Well, Woody hard to believe or not....

I was raised in a ultra religious area, were the Klan is still live and well.  I knew a HS alumni that named his son "Budwieser." He figured it was appropriate because he was drunk via Budwieser at the time of conception.  You may have been raised at the foot hills of Broke Back Mountain, but I was raised down in the boyous. I'm talking "Deliverance" territory. We had so few text books we were not allowed to even take them home. But hey if you want to sit back and say that folks need to educate themselves on their own time....  OK, that what we are here for. For some folks it is a little too late....   But for the most part, we live and learn.

I don't really care if his question is directly about HIV, I decided to expostualate further, if that is OK with you? Or should I have asked for your permission first?

I'm from and live in a town that has less than 2700 population and it is also rual. Grain and livestock farming. So don't try to use that excuse as a reason not to be informed. I find it hard to believe that you didn't know what getting a blowjob or eating out a woman was until Bill Clinton. As for other ORAL transmittable STDs his question was on the topic of HIV not other STDs and not oral, but vaginal.

Easy now Teak,  some folks grew up in hick towns that never discussed STD's. While we were safe from "gay" sex because of living in a close minded society, and every one was brought up to shun such horrid activity, no one grew up understanding HIV or STDs for that matter.

We learned about how to make a baby....   as if they was necessary, but we never learned about the medical consequencies (other than pregnancy) of casual hetero sexual activity.  We did not bother with condoms, we just "pulled out" that was our version of safe sex.

That was my generation, & I would not doubt if my hick home town still has the same text books, and the same attitude.

To the OP, get yourself tested but I think you will discover you are fine. Unilat testicle pain is a symptom of chlamydia or gon. as well as joint pain.  So I would recommend a STD pannel work up rather than just focussing on HIV. Lets face it, there is more than HIV to be concerned with out there.

Also, while we are on the subject of sex ed.  ORAL unprotected sex.... is not "SAFE" in that you can not have any transmission of STD's. It may be safe for HIV, but there is a plethora of other things out there that can be transmited via unprotected ORAl....  another one of those factoids we missed in our wonderful 30 minute sex ed class.  Heck I didn't even know what oral was until Bill Clinton had to define it for me.

I was like "OH that activity has a name...."   and in society, I am considered educated too....  in the medical field no less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just test, then you'll know your status and you will no longer have to worry about it.

Excuse me I just read you are 28. Then you don't really have an excuse for not knowing about HIV/AIDS.

No, I know I don't have an excuse.  My problem, Teak, is with my analytical mind, I have a hard time deciphering between legitimate and non-legititmate.

I've done my research, but I never know if it's good enough.

I take it that you're older than 55, to not have been taught about STDs in health class in high school, let alone ads on TV, in magizines and on the radio and you were not taught about condoms.

HIV is rarely seen in hetero men in the "developed" world, that's the important part.
It's not like the flu, it's pretty difficult to transmit.
It usually takes a lot of exposures, or a whole lot of bad luck

Then my next question is then asked out of complete ignorance:

How does the sexual transfusion of HIV work then?  I remember alot of things told to me (like one time and you're dead).

I ask this simply because, in all my work in my PhD in Political Science, AIDS was never brought up.  I am highly educated, but ignorant on this.

Thanks for the words, Regular.  You've put me at ease a bit.

I am on Sauturday.

I can say I have had unprotected sex 4 times in my life.  I've had five sexual partners in my life in total.

Very nice.
You got a higher chance winning a lottery than testing positive on Saturday.
As for your symptoms - maybe you should see a urologist.

It's highly unlikely that you have HIV.
But every sexually active adult should get tested every few years, so do it anyway next time you see your GP.
Expect negative results.
