Docs ratios

I don't know much about testing and have been trying to see what they use in Canada. As most of the time when the doctor is reporting percentages at different weeks, I am wondering if this is for the duo tests or for regular antibody tests. Has anyone seen anyone talk about what generation of tests they use in Canada? I am guessing they are up to date but I have asked a few labs and none have told me. You would think when you ask tehy would tell you what generation of tests they use. Any ideas?

I forgot to mrntion that I know to be conclusive, I will have to go back at three months but I was hoping this was a good indicator for me.

I am also interested in this thread as I am in Canada, I went in for a five week test and the doc at the std clinic said that it would be a good indicator and seemed to know his studd. He even said that mass has gone to a six week window and the new tests are sensitive to antibodies earlier. Another neat thing he brought up was the window period have not changed from teh 80" and it was only about 8 or so gay men that they used to try and devlop them so it was pretty flawed. Then I went back to get my results and I ahd a bozo of a burse who said that they meant nothing and that all it would have been done for was a baseline to ensure I was not infected before. He said I need to test at 3 and also 6 months (same clinic). I was feeling better about the negative until he said this. I see the average time to detectable antibodies is 25 days, I would think most people would come in around this time and a few would serc earlier and few later but a vast majority would be positive by 4-5 weeks. I don't know you hears different things, if the tests are up to date in Canada I guess most of what the doc says would hold true.

The only difference here is that most Dr's will tell you 6 months is conclusive depending on were you go-a private physician will say 6 months, a place that deals with testing for HIV / STD'S will tell the truth as the CDC states it-3 months is conclusive. I hope this was helpful...

No offense but a test is a test-I'm Canadian as well and tests administered here are just as modern as the States -or- any other first world industrialized Country-I've never understood when people get wrapped up in what type of tests are being used when testing at three months should be the only main concern. Don't get me wrong here, but what makes you doubt the Canadian standard means of HIV testing?
