[HIV TRI-DOT] Test reliability after 8 weeks.

Hello All,

On 21st July I had a potential exposure to HIV through cunnilingus on a wounded tongue. I discussed this with you all and every one assured me that it’s a NO RISK. Thank you all for supporting me. It has been 8 weeks now and out of stress and anxiety I wanted to get tested. I read on forums that tests after 6 weeks can be very close to accurate. As I have just completed 8 weeks I could not resist and bear the stress so I went for testing. I asked for EILSA but they said it would take 1 day for results and I was really not willing to wait for so long. They advised HIV TRI DOT Rapid test and said it is very reliable and fast. As I didn’t know much about tests and was not in a position to wait any longer I accepted. I got tested and came out NEGETIVE. It’s a relief but I am not sure how accurate this result is for 8 weeks and I don’t know much about this test either.
I googled and found the below links
: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16153264 http://www.jmitra.co.in/ourdivision/diagnosticdivision/rapidtestkits/hivrange/hiv_tri_dot_ag.aspx
The second link above is the manufacturer’s website link for Indian distribution. I want to know how conclusive this result is for 8 weeks window. Do you advise any better test after 3 months completion? Should I go for ELISA after 3 months? Please let me know.. Thank you.

First of all you never had a risk of hiv infection and secondly 8 weeks is a good indication that your safe but 3 months is 100% conclusive and they are the facts.Stop worrying because you don,t have hiv.

For got to mention.. the test I took was HIV Tri-Dot + Ag. So I believe thats equivalent to 4th gen test isn't it?

Thanks for replying getitright77. I tested for mental peace as this stress would not go away. I was so stressed that I could not even wait to complete 3 months.
Now that it tells I am negative after 8 weeks I am relived and feel better.

Have you seen cases where results change to positive after 12 weeks. As I am on 8 I think I am pretty close to exit out of window person and feel my result is very close to accuracy. Please advise.

Thank you.

almost one and a half year i went to a disc with my frnds. I was drunk and the next morning i did not remember anything. My freinds told me that they were with me for the entire period except for 10 minutes when I was all alone. Suddenly I am getting vexed about the issue and thought whether i was subjected to rape. So i decided to go for a hiv test. Although i wanted a ELISA test they told me to go for a hiv tridot test. The result came as follows Non Reactive. only the name of the test which was immunochromatography and hiv tri dot test expiry period june 2014 and thereafter non reactive was written. My question is how effective is the test and further is it a antigen test as the lab person was telling it.

In an adult, a positive HIV antibody test result means that the person is infected, a person with a negative or inconclusive result may be in the “window for 4 to 6 weeks but occasionally up to 3 months after HIV exposure. Persons at high risk who initially test negative should be retested 3 months after exposure to confirm results

I am sorry.
I trust you all but I wanted to get over this stress for ever. That is why I got tested.
This is my first test ever and wanted to know more about it as I never saw you guys speaking about tridot. It was always big names like ELISA or PCR and so got curious about this one and wanted to know.
Sorry again for the nuisance and trouble. I am trying to know and understand this. May be HIV never caught me but I am not going to leave it and want to know more and more.

Thank you.
