gum clinic using re used needles.

hi guys, i have been looking on here and i see that my question has proberly been answered before. I went for a hiv test at a GUM clinic in the uk, i am use to the old needles and she pulled one out from a draw, now i remember it being clean and i am pretty sure she did twist it..... as i was a bit paranoid she said she would show me where and what the seal looked like when it was broken and if they ever saw one they would have to do a full investigation.

However there is always one thing i have thought, just say someone in the world did use a reused needle and then put it in the arm would you hiv test not pick it up?  also i have alsways thought that the virus might die in between use? and wouldnt some one had to inject you or would the needle being poked into you do it.....

i know this might seem like a lot of what if' but i just wanted to ask.............

hope someone can help....

Congratulations you finally typed the right words You are not at risk, and no test needed, just focus your energy in your son and in your pregnancy, and delete all the e explorer historial, never again look for hiv symptoms, tests, ect.

And I insist please change your nick

Hi,

I don't think i have a big issue of them using it on someone else.... she opened the needle in front of me and i know that they have to attach other things to the needles now and she threw it in the yellow box after my main concern is that one of the nurses might have poked themselves to deliberatly injury other people.

What was your scenario

Hi
Well using all the info bout the Hiv nature and the ways of transmission, i would assume that it would not show on the test since it takes at least couple of weeks before the seroconversion occurs. If there is anybody out there with a better insight to this matter, please do correct me..... I am freaking out as much as u do bout the reusage of needles and at the same time i`m waiting for my post 6 weeks test..... My anxieties are off the charts......

I had the same worry sice last week after my test at HIV center. They I did not see the lab tech changing the needle of vacutainer and previous two people are HIV+ and I just saw he just uncover it.

When I went this week, I saw a different lab tech putting the new needle infront of me This made me really worry. I called the lab they said they will never reuse one.

All here says, Do not worry no one will resuse, Yes I do agree with them any normal human never do it. But still I have fear b'cos of the person who acted very unorganized.

I am no risk person, my 7.2 weeks test was negative. Hope it remains unchanged if had the new needle, I hope every one agree on this.

I am hoping for the best. So you all hope for the best.

hi,

and thanks for the reply.... yes you are right. If people are so quick to say no why not give a valid reason behind it. I know people who work in the NHS are there to help but all i wanted to know was again if it was used would the blood not show up in the test and i am sure i have read that the needle has to been injected in you?

I think this forum is fantastic but the paranoia gets the best of me and now i keep thinking maybe i need to have another check up to see if anything did happen....just seems like a long cycle to keep going through,

Hi,

....I have the same wondering as u do....what if a needle was reused? It just seams that people here consider it so ridiculous that we´re actually worry bout such stuff. Me too, i took a test last week and still waiting for the answer and i know that i am a paranoid mother......, but due to all the anxiety of the situation all i remember is that the vacutainer was ready on the table and i can´t quite recall if the nurse oppened it right in front of me or not.... I just don´t understand if people here on this forum have some knowledge on the matter, is it so difficult to answer the question directly instead for just say it" don´t worry bout it...."

So here comes my question;

Is there a chance that some negligible amount of virus exists on the needle despite its clean of blood appearance that once inserted to draw blood could result in infection????

The chance that a needle was reused is very, very remote.  Not enough to waste on second of thought about.
