Fever

Just a quick question.
Fevers that are associated wiv ars, are they severe? Do they last longer than a day? Does wakin up in the night wiv a sweaty head (slightly wet hair and pillow) class as a fever?

To know if you have a fever...you must take your temperature.  Also, as it is mentioned here and by Dr. H, symptoms or the lack thereof, are never a reliable indication of HIV transmission.

From what I read from your other posts....you had had protected sex in Amsterdam...which amounts to a 0 risk of HIV transmission.  You are worried about breakage...but when a condom breaks it is not a subtle event...you will notice it as it for sure.  Furthermore, CSW in Amsterdam, where it is legal, are certainly a high risk group.

Take care,

It DOES NOT MATTER what your symtpoms were.  Man, people really need to understand this!  There are no symptoms that only occur to people with HIV ARS, there are no symptoms that definitely occur with HIV ARS, some times there are no symptoms at all that occur with ARS!  I have talked with people who converted with no symptoms at all and some who said they wanted to die during their ARS, the sickness was that bad.

The point is, the only thing that paying attention to symptoms is going to get you is anxiety, and an almost certainly incorrect appraisal of your HIV probability.  Tell us, or the doctor or reasearch online by what method you thought you might have contracted HIV and you can then evaluate the posibility and get tested if it is warranted.  For most people, testing is only for peace of mind, not because there was a real, measurable risk of HIV.

My risk of exposure was wiv a prostitute in amsterdam. Protected sex. I'm extremely worried about the fact i may of caught hiv. I've shown symptoms of ars includin one nite sweat. Potentially swollen nodes and red lumps on back of tongue. I've not been eatin proper for over a week, i'm just constantly thinkin about it. Got tested for al std's includin hiv at the 2week mark. Al negative. I'm on the verge of a breakdown wiv the way i'm goin. I'm sacred to death.
Please cast your opinions.

You had safe sex with 0 risk of HIV infection...honestly.  From that point onwards, your symptoms mean absolutely nothing.

You do not have HIV.

You are suffering from a massive dose of anxiety, most probably through guilt of some sort.

The response you will read here or in the moderated forums or any place else will not differ.  You were not at risk.

We can all relate to your anxiety, it does not matter if it rooted in real risk or not (altough you really should relax).

What I suggest is that you call your regular Dr. and speak to him about it.  If testing is the only thing that will relieve your anxiety, then go and get tested again and in the meantime your Dr. might provide the re-assurance you need as well as some medicine to help you trough it.

Once again, you were not at risk.

I am a worryin type of person. And yeah guilt could be part of it. I'm goin for a test next tues which wil be the 4 week mark. Hopefully a negative result wil calm me down. But til then i'm sure i'm constantly goin to be tellin myself i'm hiv positive. I've learnt my lesson big time on this one.
Been ther, can you tel me wat ur situation was?

A HIGH fever is always present with ARS symptoms. However, fevers are also common with the flu and alot of other infections.  Never rely on symptoms to tell you whether you are positive or not.  You had safe sex anyway.  Relax!

My situation was anxiety :)

But if it helps.  Multiple instances of unprotected oral sex both fellatio and cunnilingus (I am a man...) with pros and non-pros with always, always, always protected sex.

Overall risk...theoritical at best.  Tests? all negative.

I did change my behaviour since because of the anxiety.

You do not have any ARS symptoms...because you were not at risk

First, I am assuming you live either in Europe or North America...well it is flue / cold season with hundreds of different virus / microbes that can infect you and cause symptoms: headache, throat ache, fever, muscle ache, loss of appetite and the list goes on and on.

Second, anxiety will manifest itself physically in many different forms.  Combined this with the fact that I guess that you are not sleeping well these days...

I personaly believe that when HIV related anxiety gets hold of you and that you are not able any more to rationalize your thaughts and think clearly, then you should get a test.

Furthemore, it can be possible that this anxiety has its cause rooted elsewhere and in this case, the help of a mental health profesional is a good idea and it starts by visiting your general Dr.  Fore sure it can hurt.

Rest well,

I'm really sorry for keeping posting, but i'm very much appreciating your support guys.

I live in the UK, a bug has been going round my town lately, but i never normally catch ewt, i havent been ill for years.

My head is in a massive spin, i'm going for a test next tuesday, do you believe that will be sufficient?  thats 4 weeks after exposure.  I got my test results back from the GUM clinic which i had at the start of the 2nd week.  All came back clear.

I was putting it down to anxiety, but now i really dont think it is.

regards

Yeah, me either. I never get sick, but a couple of years ago I got a horrible flu--body aches, headache, fever, conjunctivitis, you name it. And it happened while camping, with temps in the 40s and pouring rain. I was sicker than I have ever been in my life (well, mostly) and I sincerely wished I would die, lol. I probably had all the main ARS symptoms, although I have to say HIV never even occurred to me. But guess what--I just caught the flu. So you caught a cold or the flu. Whatever. You're human, and humans get sick sometimes. Coincidences happen. That's LIFE. You are fine. Your name clearly describes the real issue. Seriously, seek counseling.
