Gastrointestinal Issues

If someone could help me answer this or find a similar expert post, I would greatly appreciate it.

I had a possible exposure (unprotected heterosexual encounter) about a week before sleeping with my girlfriend (also unprotected). About 11 days after the potential exposure I had some diarrhea (3-4 days) and since then have had a complete lack of appetite (going on 3.5 weeks now). This is not what disturbs me, approximately 12 days after having unprotected sex with my girlfriend, she falls severely ill with gastrointestinal issues, nausea, severe vomiting, and diarrhea, for which she went to the hospital who did not accurately diagnose her problem but simply gave her IV fluids. I think at this point my worry is clear, the timelines match up quite well to ARS, we are both normally quite healthy people, and I can't stop thinking I've hurt someone i love dearly. My question is how often are ARS symptoms manifested in the gastrointestinal tract, and are they likely to cause severe vomiting/diarrhea without the presence of other symptoms? I know "symptoms are a notoriously poor indicator..." but really this is all I have to work off until I get my HIV test at the end of the week. Please if you are going to offer advice or your opinion, let me know what you are basing it from. Thank you.

That's so nice to hear man. I'm in the same situation as you were with diarrhea that has stayed for 3 weeks now. I haven't lost much weight maybe a couple of pounds I think..I'm trying to get more information on the gastrointestinal angle. If you don't mind please message me with the kind of symptoms you had at around 3 weeks. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've been clinical diagnosed with tv, and HIV isn't hard to miss diagnose but I will get a test for it anyways to start meds .

You're absolutely right...and the ONLY way to definitvely diagnose HIV is with an HIV test.

stop with the self diagnosing via the internet and keep your concerns on your own post.

I'm writing a follow up to all the worried folks out there - I hope this message finds you well. The past three months have been hell, but I made it through and all is good. I could barely eat, I felt nauseous when I got ready to eat, during meals, and after meals, SEVERE anxiety, lost about 12 lbs, girlfriend got sick which scared the **** out of me, I had diarrhea, tinea versicolor, cystic acne on my back, angular cheilitis, headaches, etc. I tested a bunch from 6 weeks through to 12.5 and spent nearly every waking minute on this website, I dont know how i didnt lose my job. I was depressed and not myself. Anyway I know all of you think you are going to be the one exception to the rule, as much as you should believe the Dr's, you think, what if, 99.9% that's not 100% and every minor sensation or change in your health is a clear indicator of ARS or a weakened immune system. The fact is most of these processes are either entirely normal or probably due to stress - symptoms are so important to us because they are the only thing we know for sure, but in order of importance please try to adhere to the following TESTS (most important) RISK FACTOR (2nd most important) SYMPTOMS (least important). I am just hoping this message finds someone who searched for tinea versicolor or angular cheilitis, who has convinced themselves that they are seroconverting. I wish I could tell you everything will be fine, and most likely it will be, but if you can hold out until a 6 week test, believe your results! all tests on the modern market are 3rd generation and are 99.9% accurate by 6 weeks. You think if you were in a raffle of 1000 people you would win, HIGHLY UNLIKELY. Live your life - and try to grow from this experience. God bless and goodbye medhelp. Thank you

DONT have unprotected sex with your g/f again until you get your conclusive test result.

neither of your symptoms are indicative of early infection.

they didn't misdiagnose her, sorry. what i meant is that they did not take any samples, so they just assumed the typical symptoms of gastroenteritis and sent her on her way.

hospital misdiagnosed her?   really?

severe vomiting and diarrhea causes dehydration...giving someone iv fluids is the correct thing to do.
