Not once!! Same as I have been told by other health professionals in my part of the world.
Before teak responds with the usual fear tactics. I never promote uncovered activities, but if it does happen by accident or condom break, the above statement is very reassuring.
But they tested. Stats didn't tell them a thing about their status. I can't help it if Dr. H, has never seen a heterosexual male become infected. I know quite a few. Odds and Statistics do not mean a thing when it comes to wanting to know if you were infected or not by an exposure. The only way to know, is by testing.
I don't understand why we are even arguing about stats vs. testing. They are two completely different issues.
While stats are helpful for research purposes, and for making us worried wells feel more comfortable during the window period, tesing is the ONLY way to know your HIV status.
Look, I love to hear the stats. The stats tell me that it's a million to one shot that I have HIV at this point. That is just great and I take great comfort in it. However, I take great comfort in it until I get tested and I find out for sure.
I don't mind the fact that someone quotes stats in helping to calm people down about their relative risk (or lack thereof). Of course testing is the only way to know your status. But, I think that many of the people who come here after a low risk event should be told that they had a low to no risk event. Potentially, it helps someone go from being a complete zombie, stupefied by HIV anxiety, to someone who is able to better manage that anxiety. One of the ways to illustrate that point is to quote some of the relevant stats.
