HIV Prevention Forum: Respondents Please Read

When someone is listing a question on this forum why should it have to mean that their exposure be one of "high risk". For many people who have been infected by HIV their exposure was "low risk" but THERE WAS STILL TRANSIMISSION. Also, my research provides me with the knowledge that there is infact a risk of transmission during oral sex. Tonsils are the new foreskin and are believed to carry HIV receptors. Although I have done extended research on the subject of HIV I have noticed that alot of the information related to the timing of HIV symptoms are extremely vague which cause the questions on this forum to be repetitive, long, or completely unrelated to HIV.  I can see how this can become frusturating but eventually there might be a case shared by a member in this forum where transmission had occured and instead of helping  the man, women or teen you've embarassed them and scared them away from seeking further medical attention. Isn't that the main problem with HIV, people not seeking medical attention. Also, many symptoms of HIV are similar to general, easily medicated infections that can occur throughout the body on any given day. If you are aware of possible infections that might be related to what the questionee is experiencing why not help them out and let them know what they might be experiencing! Isn't that the reason you answer the questions in the first place? To help

Furthermore, when a member of Medhelp posts a question in the HIV Prevention forum, their question should be answered with respect and honesty. Sarcasm doesn't help and defeats the purpose of being on this web site in the first place.

You only read what you wanted to out of the doctor's quote....

And oral sex is basically safe sex -- ***completely safe with respect to HIV*** and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex.

The portion of the quote between the *'s is of importance.

This forum has been around for a long time.....and those of us who regularly post to it have a much broader picture of what it is all about than a newer person who has read here for a few days.  Strict control is absolutely necessary for a forum of this nature...where anxiety runs rampant.  It is a venue where one can have a risk assessment done...and we answer every question that comes through.  What people do with our advice is up to them.  We simply will not and can not keep repeating ourselves over and over again.  It isn't fair to the other posters that want equal attention, and it is futile....doesn't help the worried well in any way to continue the conversation.

So, you may "like" to see different things happen within the forum...the truth is...you do not have enough knowledge about HIV, or THIS forum to be making any kind of requests as to how this forum is run.

So, your extended research on HIV concludes that playing sport is a risk for HIV transmission? Please, go and educate yourself on the Actual causes of HIV transmission.

Oral sex is not a risk and sports is NOT a risk.

As I previously expressed in my earlier statement, I too understand the frustration caused by the repeated and unrelated questions regarding HIV. Also, I understand that no one here is a doctor and that diagnosis can't be achieved without proper evaluation by a medical professional. I only ask that the respondants remain respectful, even in situations of extreme frustration. HIV can take over your life whether or not you have it and even though I haven't yet witnessed the severity of anxiety that others have on this forum, it needs to be understood that these people are very sick and should be treated appropriately.

And when it comes to oral sex, your direct quote includes the word "basically" which suggests that it is not completely safe. Although there might not be any reported cases directly suggesting the transmission of HIV during oral sex, most people performing oral sex have usually at one time or another found themselves in higher risk situations. Also, I haven't yet heard of a way to prove how HIV has entered the body, whether it was during anal, oral or vaginal sex or possibly during a sports game where you opponents blood made its way through a cut into your bloodstream. If you could tell me where this testing is done it would be much appreciated!

regarding the oral sex issue...

A direct quote from Dr. HHH

"And oral sex is basically safe sex -- completely safe with respect to HIV and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex.  Please educate yourself about the real risks.  If you stick with oral sex and condom-protected vaginal or anal sex, you have no HIV worries and very little worry about other STDs. "

during all your extended  research...did you happen to figure out why no one has ever been infected with hiv from oral sex?  how many unprotected beejjjjs do you think happen on any given day?

symptoms...
pretty much everyone that posts on this forum has "symptoms"...even the ones who were never at risk.  obviously...anxiety brings on most of these symptoms.  i regularly send ppl to the health pages link on the top right hand corner of this page to read about hiv anxiety and the symptoms that follow.
it has been my experience on this forum, over two years, that the timing of symptoms are very much related to the exact time someone started reading about symptoms on the internet.  a large number of posters report "symptoms" that have absolutely nothing to do with early infection...but more to do with someone who has been infected for yearrrrrrrrrrrrrrs.  why?  because they type in "hiv symptoms"...totally different than the symptoms caused from ars.  so from the start...their reported symptoms are not even related to ars.
as far as anyone here diagnosing someone's symptoms...it's not going to be done.  we are not doctors and would never take it upon ourselves to diagnose someone.  we do, however, advise ppl to continue to work with their doctor because their symptoms are NOT hiv related.  our job is to assess someone's risk and/or answer questions regarding transmission and testing.  it is not to diagnose someone's health concerns.

responses...
this has been discussed here too.
i can only speak for teak and i...but we pretty much always do a search on someone before answering their post.  it's not unusual to find someone who has been posting for 2 years, asking about everything from getting a scratch on their toe to thinking that the cook at the restaurant spit in their food.  these ppl we cannot help.  it's not unusual to find someone who has 45 posts about protected sex.  there does come a time when enough is enough and it is apparent that we cannot help these ppl.   it's not unusual to find someone who is using their 4th, 10th, or 25th screen name...continuing to ask us the same questions about their NO RISK exposure...unable to accept the fact that they were never at risk.   at any given time...there may be 10 new posts...10 new screen names...and actually only two ppl posting... under different names.
we all volunteer our time to this forum and enjoy helping ppl understand the facts regarding hiv.  we try to keep it as precise as we can and not get involved with the anxiety driven drama that is created.  imagine what this forum would be if we did not do what we can to help enforce the posting guidelines created by the owners of medhelp.  the guidelines are in place for a reason.

i have never read a single response by the responder that was sarcastic or disrespectful.  what i have seen is they getting frustrated when people keep asking the same questions over and over and over or when they question what the responders say.  Teak is an expert on HIV.  he teaches several classes on the subject at the college level.  i don't know about you but all my college professors are up to date with the information on the subject they teach.  this is not sarcasm on my part i'm just saying that he knows what he's talking about.  if you don't agree with what is said here, no one is forcing you to stay.  people respond because they want to help not belittle people.
