At 14 days post exposure, only a PCR or an RNA test will give you you conclusive results.

Test at 28 day post exposure with a 4th generation DUO test. This test will not give you conclusive results, but will give you a fairly accurate reading......it is unlikely, but not impossible, that that result could change when you do the 3 month (12 week) follow up confirmatory test, which WILL be conclusive.

I wish both you and your girlfriend the very best.

Same boat, here, Alfred. Two years of unprotected sex with woman who learned she is HIV positive 60 days ago. I've had every test imaginable so far (four 4th gens, 3 HIV RNAs, four Rapid) and they're all negative. I pray nothing changes for yu and myself. I'll post some links from this forum's archives if you'd be at ease. They help me.

it will not do you any justice to test so frequently do a 3 month it takes time for changes in the blood to happen generally every 3 months  so frequent testing will only hurt your wallet.you have already had a negative test that is a very good sign.try to remain calm i know its difficult. but anxiety can cause its own symptoms.also just something to think about has she been tested for coinfections.this will be helpful to know for you and for her as well.stay negative .

I just wonder why this lady could betray me. In fact we had an HIV test few months back and it was non reactive. I am failing to understand this. When she found out she was positive i confroted her as she cried the whole day. I then asked her of her recent exposures. She said she has been sleeping around with some dudes. She always told me she was clean until after two weeks of unprotected sex, i took her for a test. Dear Lord! We have had atleast unprotected sexual encounters (topping)...

careful your anxiety could be causing them not everyone gets hiv even with an exposure let your testing be your judge of truth .

A 3rd gen at 4 weeks is around 90% accurate, so that is very good news. But, as Rubywitch said, 12 weeks is conclusive.

The test they are using is most likely (and hopefully) a 4th generation duo test, which will, indeed, give you a fairly accurate result of your status. But it will not be conclusive. A confirmatory test at 12 weeks is needed for a 100% conclusive result. That is what the HIV specialist state in our country.
I wish you the best.
