HIV Symptoms and Anxiety

Hi,

I am new here, but I feel that a lot of help was provided for many people here, so I feel this is a good place.

Three days ago I had vaginal intercourse with a prostitute.  I used a condom, however, when I finished, I realized the condom was broken.  I don't think it lasted for more than 5 minutes.  The following day, apart from feeling extremely guilty, I realized that I might have been exposed to HIV and I began worrying about it.  The minute I began worrying about it I began to feel nauseous, my stomach started to feel funny, and lost my appetite.  To clear my mind out, I went and played sports for a while, I pinched a nerve on my back and has been hurting ever since.

Now, today I have a semi-dry throat, I still do not have much of an appetite, and I began experiencing pain in my groin area.  However, I don't know if the pain in the groin area is due to the acute pain in my back or if I can see it as another symptom of HIV.  I want to know what the odds are that I might have contracted HIV.  I have lost so much sleep over this, and I cannot stand the thought of being alone in my house worrying about whether I have this disease or not.  I am so afraid.

What are the odds that I might have contracted HIV?  Are my symptoms too early to tell?  Can the groin pain be related to HIV or just my back problem?  Could I be scaring myself into having these symptoms?

I have very similar situation to you. My condom was very loose during the intercourse. I get myself tested at the fourth week from a 3rd generation antibody rapid test. The result came back negative. My suggestion is that you get yourself a test at the fourth week to turn down the fear psychologically, and another test at the sixth week to turn down the fear physically and the last test at the twelfth week to make a conclusive solution. I hope you and me are all NEGATIVE when the time passed by the twelfth week. Don't do silly things again. Peace out comrade...!

Symptoms of early HIV (ARS) come on 2-4 weeks after exposure and last 1-2 weeks. With that being said, Your symptoms came on to soon to be related and they are not even the type of symptoms related to ARS.

Odds ar odds - We do not really get into odds on this forum, But I can tell you that the odds of you being infected from what you describe is very low.

We do not state odds because it only takes 1 time to become infected, but as I said is very unlikely. The only way to know if you were infected from this exposure is to test for HIV 3 months post exposure.

Your test will most likely be Negative given your exposure.

Hope this helps
