Another thing I forgot to mention, I am in the UK they say 12 weeks for the final test and not the 13 weeks like the USA. I donate blood, and asked after the 12 week test being negative could I go and donate blood again, they said no problem. I am sure you and ohio9200 will be ok, but if you want 100% confidence and peace of mind for that final answer then 12 weeks will be ok. Teak might disagree, but I am sure our UK medical service would not put people at risk for the sake of a week
There was a day when there was no test for HIV. Then along came a test, it took six months before it was 100% reliable. But that was about 10 years ago, modern tests, which are the only ones available now are 3 months. 3 months because the drug companies have used data based on three months periods to get the tests registered. It could be less if the companies spent the time and money to prove a lower test time for 100% reliability. This is why Dr HHH seems comfortable with 6 /8 week periods unless you had high risk sex i.e unprotected anal with a known HIV+ man.
I have spent the last two days looking at his forum, to finally put my mind at rest, so all the above is on his forum if you want to spent the time looking for it.If you read my posting yesterday "what a mess" you will see I was struggling to believe a 16 week negative result. But since reading this forum and Dr HHH forum I know I am now ok.
I am asking to people who mention 8 weeks is not conclusive:
Have you ever seen a healthy person (not cancer, drug user, week immune system) who is positive after 8 weeks?
If not, so why do you put people to anxiety and depression.
Doctor says 8 weeks conclusive. But you are pushing people to black hole
A 72 day neg is VERY reliable. I would say there have been VERY few times a person has tested pos after a 72 day neg. Get a FINAL test at 13 weeks, (without any doubt it will be neg) and move on with life.
I am a 26 yr old female living in a rural area in ohio. I had unproteced sex 2xs with a man who says he clean of all stds he is much older than me and i got dumped to say the least. I had an hiv test 72 days (10 weeks 2 days) after the last time we were intamate. It was negative and had a pap the same day as the hiv test it also came back clean. I have had no real symptoms besides stress related problems. I was wondering what you guys think about the 10 week neg. and clean pap. any input is highly welcomed. I just want to go on with my life!!!!!!!!!!
An eight week neg is VERY reliable but not conclusive. You have rounded second and are sliding into third. Get a final test at 13 weeks and move on with life.
What was your risk?
99% of all people have a normal immune system. There are no tests approved to give you a conclusive test result less than 3 months.
So Dr. HHH is wrong with 6 week recommendation? But for a person with normal immune system, is it likely that antibodies would show up on 6-8 week test?
No, 8 weeks is not conclusive. 3 months is conclusive. It doesn't matter what test is given at 3 months.
