HIV Transmission Question

I have a question:  Does anyone know why so many hemophiliacs were infected with the hiv virus (before testing started in 1985) versus not nearly as many people that just got straight blood transfusions?  Do hemophiliacs receive blood products mixed from many donors while transfusions recipients receive blood from just one donor?  Thanks.

Are you kidding me man? If your friend the hemophiliac had contracted hiv in 85', they would be long gone by now, no doubt...don't be concerned unless they have other risk factors besides what you have mentioned...

I read that almost all hemophiliacs were infected before testing in 1985, yet not nearly as many blood transfusion recipients were, but I couldn't find why this was the case.  A friend of mine received a blood transfusion before 1985 but hasn't gotten tested and was wondering what the chances would be of her being infected.

Why do you ask? If you want to know the history of HIV in hemophiliacs due to factor 9 transmission. Look it up.
