PCR-RNA are supplemental tests they are used in conjunction with an antibody test.
Thanks. That is what the med clinic told me, but since I did/am having ARS symptoms they reccomended that I do a HIV RNA PCR Real Time viral load test. I requested for them to do a anti-body test but they stated that I needed to wait post 90 days. Today when I got my results back I requested a anti-body test, but they scheduled me to come back on my post 90th day to do the anti-body test. The doctor stated that it was a waste of time and money to do a anti-body test before 90 days post expose.
Would I have a readable VL 67 days post exposure if I would be infected with HIV? When I asked the Dr. he was not to clear in his remarks and stated that there was a 1% chance of results being a false neg/undetectable due to being an controller or the virus was reaching a low set point under <20 copies/mL with out being on ART.
Also, DR stated that the RNA PCR checks for all HIV-1 groups and subs, but does not check for HIV-2.
How common is it for someone to be a controller or for someone to have a set point VL under <20 copies during the first 90 days? I read your bio profile and it seems that you have vast knowledge in regards to HIV matters.
Get your conclusive test at 3 months.
Does anyone have any info in regards to Viral Load count during the first 3 months of HIV infection? Would it be high and a certin point to flat out at another point during ARS and/or seroconversion?
NO, that is not necessarily true.
In majority of cases it would be.That's what the CDC says.
CDC says a lot of things that are not totally true and to say your VL would be high at 9.5 weeks is not totally correct.
Teak, what are the reasons behind you last comments about getitright77's comments on the HIV viral load in the first 3 months. Please advise.
Not all people that are infected show high VL. That's why PCR-RNA tests cannot diagnose primary HIV infection. Elite Controllers and LTNP rarely have high VL.
My Hiv expert friend in sydney says that the viral load of a person just recently infected is usually quite high.Even our expert doctors say the HIV RNA is very reliable early on.
What is a LTNP and why would they not have a VL >19 copies/mL?
Long term non progressor..
For example people like Magic Johnson are LTNP's.
Because their immune symtom can control the virus replication.
Just wondering why you didn't have a DUO test at the 4 week mark. Most people have detectable p24 antigen by then.
Limitation of 4th generation tests. A negative test result at any point in the investigation of individual subjects does not preclude the possibility of exposure to or infection with HIV-1 and/or HIV-2.
So I would be currently HIV+ and since my VL was undectable this would mean I would ether be a elite controller or a LTNP?
Hofully my 13 week HIV 1/2 anti body test will be neg.
I had just about every ARS symptom, but did not have Fever, no Sore Throath, and no swolllen lymp nodes.
Lost 6% of body weight (12 lbs) in six weeks.
Only odd thing was that all the symptoms did not come at the same time and do not dimimish at the same time. Is this common in ARS?
PCR-RNA cannot give a negative or positive diagnosis.
Currently I was told that a DUO p24 was unavailble and not FDA approved. I was told to wait to 90 days until an accurate HIV anti-body test would be 99.9% conclusive.
These two are FDA approved;
ARCHITECT HIV CMIA TEST 6-18-2010
BIO-RAD GS HIV EIA TEST 7-22-2011
Is there a National lab that i can test with a DUO? As my doctor told me it was not yet approved in the USA.
NO, I wasn't on meds for 21 years.
Your wasting your time with the DUO now,it is only good from 1 to 4 weeks after exposure.Just have an antibody test and you will be fine.Your doctor is wrong.DUO tests are approved in the US.They have been since 2010.
