dont bring up old threads
those counsellors are amatuers at their best...recently one of them told me that i have a high possibility to get hiv+ coz i have itchy rashes all over my body which i kept telling him that i have been having those for the past 6 years but he choose to follow his own theories..their tests might be good but their counselling is worst than getting infected by HIV
And also...symptoms are not a reliable indication of HIV infection since most people have no symptoms at all, some people have mild symptoms and some have the worst flu-like illness of their lives!
From the encounter as you describe it I really don't think you were at risk. However, I am not an expert and I do understand the paranoia and confusion over this nasty little virus cos I was there such a short time ago...and am not over the paranoia yet!
Anyway, the Action For Aids Clinic runs on tues and wed nights between 6.30pm-8pm and sat bewteen 1.30-3.30pm at the DSC Clinic on Kelantan Lane. It is completely anonymous even if you test positive, costs S$20 and you get the results inside of 20 minutes. Plus, there are counsellors there who will guide you through the whole process.
I repeat, I seriously doubt you had any risk whatsoever from this encounter and would say based on your description that you had no chance at all of contracting HIV, but a test even at 2 months will set your mind at ease if our words here cannot. (though the accepted conclusive test would be at 3 months post exposure, your risk as you describe it here was pretty much non-existant anyway.)
I dont even think you need to test, but if you do decide to, fully expect to test negative.
Take care.
firstly - protected sex is just that, protected.
secondly - the symptoms came too late after the exposure to be ARS
thirdly - ARS or acute retroviral syndrome symptoms usually come all at the same time, so that would mean you have the loose stools, fever, and cold like symptom sat the same time. The fact that you recovered after antibiotic treatment means it was probably a bacterial infection.
If you still feel like testing you can choose between wht Dr H says (6 weeks - due to your low risk exposure), or 13 weeks as Teak (quoting the CDC) says.
