HIV fear caused by taking a vaccine

Hello everybody,

First of all, sorry my poor english.

Last week my wife and I took a 'yellow fever' (a disease that sadly still exists where I live) vaccine. The vaccine itself is given intramuscularly, and is multidose. That means it uses two needles: one for injecting the vaccine into the syringe (needle #1) and another for injecting into the muscle (needle #2).

Before my wife took her shot, I noticed the male nurse did a strange move with his hand/arm, like if he was suddenly injured or something like that.

So I started to think abou this scenario: the nurse pricked itself with needle #1, but didn't discharge the whole thing (what would be the obvious thing to do in this case). I know for sure that needle #2 was intact, because he detached the cap in front of us.

What would be the risk, in this case?

Notice that is impossible for me to know if he really pricked himself. But it's a scenario that appeared in my mind anyway. I know that it can be just my OCD saying 'hello' again.

As an adult, the only risks for HIV are:
1) having unprotected, penetrative vaginal or anal sex, or
2) sharing IV drug needles with other IV drug users.

You had NO RISK for HIV and you do not need to test.

You acknowledge that you have OCD, and that's where this is coming from.  Medical professionals don't take careless risks like that.  No one has ever gotten HIV from receiving a vaccine.

Thanks for your reply, CurfewX. I know that I have OCD issues that I have to start to deal with professionally.
