HIV testing accuracy at 16 weeks?

Hello, I had a unprotected vagina encounter with a woman of unknown status. I have had burning, odd rashes near my groin folds, a sore throat, and multiple ulcers inside mouth after the encounter. I have read that rashes and ulcers inside mouth are a very good indicator you have been infected with HIV.

I took the following test at 16 WEEKS post exposure: HIV AB, HIV 1/2 , EIA w/ reflexes
Result: Non-Reactive!!

My question is, based on my symptoms should I retest at 6 months? Is my result conclusive regardless of HIV symptoms? Also, what test was performed above? Is it accurate???

Everything I read says it takes 6 months for HIV testing to be conclusive. I'm very scared. Please help.

Hi there.

Regardless if your test was a 3rd or 4th generation test, it has conclusively proven test you did not catch HIV from your exposure in question.

Symptoms mean nothing, in fact, most people commenting with the right knowledge completely discount symptoms.

As per the excellent advice above, six months is years out of date, sadly some of this rubbish info still floats around the internet!

Enjoy and celebrate your Negative status, always use Condoms for Vaginal / Anal sex and you will never have a concern.

Best Wishes

James

Vance can you comment on the specific test I took so I may close this thread.

I keep reading about "4th generation" tests as being the most accurate. What generation is the one I took? Is it accurate at 3 months compared to other tests?

I believe I took an HIV Elisa or Western Blot. It says HIV 1/2 AB, EIA w/ reflexes. Please comment. Thank you.

They are uninformed, 6 months has not been used in years.

Vance, Why do most credible online sources say 6 months in certain situations then? Many don't even state immune issues at the cause for such delayed seroconversion. If not immune deficiencies, I'm assuming it's due to the delayed response time of antibodies for certain folks or the inaccuracies of testing, maybe the specific test I did.

It's not just one site, it's many. How can I trust my test at 16 weeks then?

Can anyone please chime in. I'm thinking of buying the Oral Quik HIV swab test today. Any additional input from anyone would be great.

i not an expert , but three month is conclusive , the problem with internet is u cant say when the paper or report was written , it could be old report on test u read on today , as per the old test , 6 month was conclusion , but in today time three month test result are very conclusive .99.9% accrued
as per my understanding the percentage is going to remain the same even if u test after 6 month or one year ... u are safe dont tell anxiety or stress to cover your mind ... be save and use condoms
