HIV transmission through blood

Hey guys

Please can you help. Im travelling around South East Asia and ir seems I keep on getting myself in a real pickle wirh regards to contracting HIV. The irony being that rhe situations I want advice on were not of my sexual or drug related but completely innocent.

I would really be greatful for any feedback from some informed persons as I am really anxious and have no one to turn to or speak to. Hemce my post.

The two episodes are as follows

SITUATION 1) Twelve days ago I was in Hoi An in Virtnam getting a suit stiched and I was sitting next to the seamstress to see if she was doing it to my specifications, as she had made a hash of it on two prior occasions. She pricked her finger on the needle , pierced her skin and a small amount of blood bubbled up on her finger. I jokingly asked if it hurt and she then she used the same needle to in jest stab me with the same needle (on my hand where the thumb and finger meet). Again this pierced my skin also and I was wondering what the chance of HIV transmission is? I dont know the womans HIV status. I have for the last two says had a fever, and my body has been aching but I have been able to walk around albieit gingerly. No rash on my tunk from what I can see? Can transmission take place with such a small amount of blood being swapped?

SITUATION 2) I left Viernam for Cambidia and was on the beach today. Basically three local ladies said they could take away the hair on my back by threading. Basically they didnt just use thread they shaved my back with a rusty razor blade. They cut me with the thread which they also used to moisten with their saliva. I also recieved a cut from the razor blade nothing serious enough to cause very superficial grazing with miniscule amounts of blood. The threading caused me to bleed more because whenever they pulled a hair out from its root it caused it to bleed. Bur again very superficial bleeding. They wiped away the blood via talcum powder and their bare hands. I checked their hands and rheir were no visible cuts. I didnt realise I was bleeding as I was lying face down and was only told I was bleeding by a friend when they were about to finish otherwise I would have never let the procedure to continue. Please can you tell me the risk of HIV transmission via this episode.

These situations maybe be fraught with danger or risk no transmission at all. But until I get some type of informed answers ill never know. Being in Cambodia, I have no outlet for answers apart from the good folk on this wonderful forum. So please can somebody enlighten me and give me some feedback. It would be immensley appreciated as your answers will dictate the rest of my trip.

Warm regards

z

The HIV virus is very fragile and is inactive and unable to infect after it is exposed to air. The virus needs to be in the Host (Body) or in an air tight area to infect. As you can see in both of your exposures the blood would of been inactive and unable to infect you.

SITUATION 1) Not an HIV risk

SITUATION 2) Not an HIV risk

You may want to get a tetnus shot if you havent had one in the last 10 years. I say this because you said a rusty blade cut you.

Hope this helps
