1/500 for receptive vaginal sex per exposure. You should be tested.
i am male tho...whats the chances for insertive per exposure
gumm_BIH is wrong. The risk is 1 in 1000 for female and for males its 1 in 2000. You should still get tested at appropriate time as people do get HIV despite these odd's.
I'm getting tested tomorrow but it's only been a month. And I'm so scared right now. I literally don't think about anything else all day I'm so worried right now
I understand. However, the chance that you acquired HIV is low. Your exposure was really short. The data for HIV transmission is for several minutes of unprotected sex with known HIV positive partner. Besides, why do you think that the girl was HIV infected? Chances are that she wasn't. Most women dont have HIV. Even most commercial sex workers dont have HIV. Even if your partner was a commercial sex worker, your odd's of acquiring HIV at most are 1 in 200,000. Dont worry. Get tested and move on.
She wasn't a commercial sex worker. And I'm worrying because 3 days after the possible exposure I got a fever and swollen glands in my neck and my tonsils had white spots on them. I went to the doctor they tested me for strep and it wasn't strep. They gave me antibiotics and it went away in about a day. About a week later i started to get sore throats at night time only. Now my stomache hurts and I have a headache for about 5 days now and my tongue is white
ARS symptoms don,t appear 3 days after exposure, they appear at around 2 to 4 weeks after. The only way to determine your hiv status is to test.
I she wasnt a CSW then you really have nothing to worry about. One in then thousand women in the US have HIV. Even if she had HIV then the chance of transmission from any single episode of unprotected vaginal sex for men is 1 in 2000. So your odd's come down to 1 in 2 million. On top of that your sex lasted only for 20 seconds. So your odds are probably lower than 1 in 2 million. Had you asked the same question to Dr.HHH or Dr Hook, they wouldnt even have recommended testing on account of this exposure. However, every sexually active adult should get periodic testing for STD's from time to time. So if you havent been tested for a while, this might be a good time. But I dont think you should be worried about this exposure.
I am sorry. I meant "one in ten thousand women have hiv" in the US.
I don,t mean to cut in on your statistics etc but how can tha t figure be accurate when there are over 250,000 people in the USA who are hiv positive and don,t even know it because they haven,t bothered testing.
In the US, heterosexual transmission is rare. Data suggests that one in ten thousand of non IV drug users heterosexuals in the US have HIV. HIV is mostly concentrated in men who have sex with men and IV drug user population. I got this statistics from experts of this forum such as Dr. Hook and Dr.HHH. You can search it on expert forum. They have discussed it several times.
I realize that but they are not taking into account the 250,000 people who have hiv and don,t know it.Thats alot of people. And each year around 50,000 new infections are recorded in the US alone.
They didnt get into details of what they take into account when they give that statistic. However, I am sure they consider everything before advising people. I trust them on this issue. Besides, lets assume that they are wrong and underestimated the number of people with HIV. Lets say that they have 100% margin of error in their estimate. Even then, in worst case scenario, 1 in 5000 heterosexual and non IV drug user population will have HIV. Even then the chance of acquiring HIV for a male is one in 1 million. So even increasing the number of people with HIV by twice, the risk is really low. The truth is, people dont need to panic and get tested everytime they have vaginal sex unless the partner is high risk. However, to eliminate whatever little risk there is, they should use condom every time.
I agree with what your saying and i agree that safe sex is always the answer to prevent the spread of hiv.Prevention is the cure.
Also, the percentage of HIV infected people in heterosexual population have stayed the same for past several years despite 50000 infections every year. So the risk hasnt really changed much.
Sorry, I miscalculated earlier. Your actually risk is ten thousand times 2 thousand, that is one in 20 million.
uh sorry my fault. You wrote in your profile: Female.
I agree with really_worried_guy
HIV can be transmitted on the first exposure that is why you use condoms correctly and consistently then you won't have an HIV concern.
i dont know whos telleing the truth hera
It,s time to except your assessment and move on with your life.
Thanks for the help. I'm going to get tested today
I got tested and it was negative after 1 month. What is the percent that im negative?
At 4 weeks around 90% of people who have HIV will show positive test. Your odd's of contracting HIV after this test is now 1 in two hundred million. If you get tested at 8 weeks, your odd's will be10 times lower than that since over 99% of people show positive test by that time. So your odd's will become one in 2 billion.
