Help. Are my symptoms cause for concern?

27 yr old male.  Had unprotected vaginal sex one time around the 1st of February.  About 2 weeks later got the flu (a close friend of mine also had the flu a few days prior).  Lasted for about 4 days.  Persistent cough and sinus congestion lingered for 2 weeks.  Around the 15th of March, got a bad sore throat and fever, felt like strep, but negative strep test.  Dr prescribed antibiotics and got better within 48 hours.  On April 10th noticed a rash in my groin area, small and circular, very itchy.  Tested positive for Lyme Disease shortly after.  I did not notice a tick and do not have any other symptoms of lyme besides fatigue and the small dime sized rash.  However, I read somewhere that lyme tests sometimes have false-positive results when it could really be HIV antibodies.  Now have a red, blotchy rash on my cheeks and forehead.  No other symptoms.  Should I be concerned this is HIV related?  Can acute HIV infection cause symptoms after nearly 3 months and at different times?  I am going to get tested, but nervous and in need of some good news.

Thanks.

Your small dime sized rash is indicative of lyme disease, thats for sure.

I read that on another medical site, said something like "false-positive results are sometimes a result of another viral infection, like mono, epstien-barr, or HIV".  Scared the heck outta me.  There were other reasons too, like past lyme infection.  I know I shouldn't be reading this stuff.  Thanks for the replies.  I feel better knowing that this is not a common thing.

symptoms are meaningless when it comes to hiv only a test 3 months post exposure will give you a conclusive result

I have never heard of a lyme test having a false positive and the person really having HIV. Where did you read that?

You had a risk. Symptoms mean nothing when it comes to HIV. You symptoms are not indicative to HIV because they didn't come on all at once.
