Hi i am very worried about a possible HIV exposure due to uprotected vaginal intercourse, i was very drunk at the time and realised straight away what a mistake i had made the next morning. Anyway 9 days later i started to experience ARS symptoms which were swollen neck lymph nodes, muscle aches and joint pains, a small symetrical rash on my hips, some weight loss and a white coated tongue.

Have had a test at 2 and a half weeks past exposure which came back negative am waiting for another test at 3 months and am now nearly 6 weeks past exposure and have developed gingivitis i would say these symptoms are conclusive i have HIV without a doubt, i am so scared.

Im scared to my friend nervous everyone assures me im at no risk. Im just find it krazy i started getting all these symptoms after my incident.. But like they all said teak and the other we need to relax instead of driving ourselves mad with every little thing we notice.

I am still convinced i have HIV and am coming to terms with it. I am just curious though, would you be able to feel where the virus entered as i had a cold sensation at the tip of my penis just after the incident. Would this be common for infection??? Has anyone else had this feeling?

I may havre OHL (looks like it) but not diagnosed.  I also thought I had thrush which my Dr. said I did not.  I tested negative at 20 weeks and assume I am truly negative.

Also from Dr. Hook (can't argue with his credentials):  "Second, OHL is not found only in persons with HIV.  It was recognized and described long before the HIV era and occurs regularly in persons other than those with HIV."

Hi bosscoe,

I've some points a view for you :
- You're under panic attack (It's also often my case ;-) )
- You're looking yourself and find always something strange ==> this is normal...even if you're HIV - you'll find always something strange on your body
- Try this : stop touching your body...I'm sure your gengivitis it s because you're touching your gums a lot of times by days
- There a no significant ARS symptoms.  A lot (+- 70%) of HIV+ never experiment that
- If you're infected or not, you can't change that, it's too late, for now try to be relax and think to other things.  Take medicine, it's helping...

Do you know of anyone who has had OHL during ARS, i'm really scared because its quoted as a late symptom just before aids!

No, you immune system is not compromise after 8 days. Don't be looking up every symptom to relate to yourself. See a doctor if you have a concern.

I believe my tongue to be hairy Leukoplakia (white that wont scrape off) is this common of ARS i have it, i thought it was a later stage of the illness? Is my immune system so knackered after only 8 days? I have hardly been ill in my life!

Not in early HIV infection. PN is not HIV specific. Any kind of trauma can cause PN.

Thanks teak, but i thought PN was caused by the virus attacking the nueral connections on the spinal chord which is what sends messages to hands and feet? Thanks again for your help teak, i have my eight week test next week.

If you had thrush this long you wouldn't be posting on the Internet. Thrush is very painful.
Gingivitis has nothing to do with HIV. PN if one has it with HIV is cause by HAART medications not HIV itself and is not a symptom of early HIV infection.

Okay i am seven weeks after exposure and have still got a white coated tongue both my doctor and my dentist said it was not thrush or a yeast infection, but i beg to differ. But just this week i have developed tingling sensation in my feet (NP???) and the gingivitis i got totally freaked me out if i am positive do these HIV symptoms mean i am a fast progressor? Do HIV symptoms occur after 6 weeks post exposure??? Also would it be possible to feel where the virus went in? After the event i had a cold sensation at the tip of my penis, before some ars symptoms came on!

Thanks teak but i have read that gingivitis is what occurs in some of the earliest stages of the HIV infection, when the immune system is weak. I am of to the dentist today i will see what his opinion is. Thanks again

Gingivitis is a gum disorder, it has nothing to do with HIV. See your dentist.

Is gingivitis an advanced symptom of HIV i am worried that i may have a bad strain if i have gingivitis after only 5 weeks post exposure.

So my mum keeps telling me Lizzie, but its hard not to be really scared about living with the disease. I can't think what else my symptoms could be there has been to many.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, i am so so scared right now i believe my life to be over for one stupid mistake, i am driving my family crazy!!

I keep trying to look positive and my doctor said my symptoms came a little early for ARS but getting gingivitis this week has just confirmed that i am HIV positive, i have a little boy i cant belive i was so stupid.
