Unique HIV question

Hello. Last month my HIV positive mother-in-law visited for a couple of weeks. When I shave my legs, I usually sit on the edge of the bath and use the water that runs down the bottom of the bath tube when rinsing the razor. If she took a shower immediately before me and I shaved my legs, rinsing the blade on the water running down the bath floor, could I have gotten infected if I nicked myself. The reason I am concerned is because about a week after she left I got sick with a runny nose, congestion, and a dry cough that lasted for about 10 days (felt like a typical head cold). I also got a canker sore (although I have gotten them my whole life). I don't want to discuss this with my husband since he already is sensitive about his mom's condition and he would think I was overreacting. Thoughts? Thanks. Sorry if this is an irrational fear.

You have nothing to worry about from what you have described because shaving is not a mode of HIV transmission. It is an extremely fragile virus outside the body and therefore is unable to infect you. It's your fear of the virus that might be making you think irrationally.Unless you share IV drug works with your mother-in-law which I'm sure you don't then there is no risk at all of contracting HIV from her.Sharing drinks, food and the bathroom with her will never be a risk. You're safe.
