Negative after 8 weeks

I wrote here awhile back. Last week I took an HIV test at 8 weeks and the result came back negative. The head of the virology lab said that I could feel pretty safe because 8 weeks is a long time post exposure and that a negative result was encouraging.

Being an engineer - and human above all - I'm still trying to find more information... Specifically I wonder if anyone has knowledge of percentages? How many cases are discovered at 6 weeks? How many post 8 weeks? I'm still taking a final test at 12 weeks and I feel more calm after this negative result... Well, if you have a minute to spare and know something, please tell me.

It's extremely rare that 8 week negative results changes into a positive result. Precentages are a little different from source to source, but from what I've read it's somewhere between 95% and 98% likely to stay negative. Conclusive results can be obtained after 12 weeks from exposure (as you probably know).
