Negative result

Moderators.....I apologise if this isn't the correct place to post this. Please don't ban my account. I just feel people may want to read this.....and others should definitely read this.

I have just returned from the Hospital GU clinic. I have been in pieces for nearly 6 weeks now, despite the fact I had received advice (and a few warning from moderators.......sorry about that) that I had no risk to begin with (oral related).

I broke down when talking to the Doctor.....she was very kind. She could see I was terrified and very anxious as soon as I walked in. She then asked what my exposure was. When I told her it was oral (giving) with ejaculate, she just leaned back and said " oh.....oh my sweet dear, try not to let that worry you so much. If HIV was so easily passed from oral, we'd have half of Malta with HIV.....in a week!"

She wasn't making light of HIV or trying to be funny.....she was just expressing how very very uncommon it would be (if ever). She even told me that if I'd have come in during the 1st 72hrs and asked for PEP, that they don't even offer it for oral exposures here in Malta.

Due to the fact she could see how much of a wreck I was, she called for the tests to be done urgently so we could get the results within an hour to put me at ease.......the blood tests here usually take 1 week for results.

Sure enough.....1 hour later she told me I was HIV negative, but also negative for hepatitis A, B and C and also Syphilis. I need to call back for the others, like Gonorrhea etc, but assured me they were treatable with antibiotics if required. She gave me a hug, told me to calm down and start enjoying my life again.

So....my message to everyone is this......please please please LISTEN to the advice you get here from the Moderators and Community members. Try to believe in the 40 year science. DON'T let anxiety and worry rule your thoughts like it did with me. 6 weeks of panic is horrible. Some worry for a lot longer. DON'T! Go get tested.....put the worry behind you.

Thank you everyone who helped me. I wish you all the very very best.

Please try to remain calm and trust in your negative result. I know it's difficult.....terrifying at times. But you have had a negative result. Negative is negative. Believe in it. Maybe speak to your Doctor again or consider counselling to help deal with your fears. I wish you all the best.
