No knowledge of HIV transmission, looking for facts

Hi. Forgive me for my ignorance. I started googling and came across so much that I became overwhelmed and didn't know what to believe. I was told this site could help by a friend.  I am hoping someone can help me. I have no knowledge of how HIV is transmitted. I was homeschooled by very conservated parents that never discussed sex or anything related. This is a subject I've never really thought about it. This isn't a troll post and I won't post more than one question unless you need more information from me.

Today while traveling, we stopped at a rest area in South Carolina. I used a restroom and after walking out noticed a blood, most likely a period stain on the floor near the toilet. It looked dried, I think.  How long does this virus live outside the body? Can it hop a ride on an object like my shoes and infect? I didn't clean my shoes with anything and my toddler was in the bathroom with me.

The only way an adult can acquire HIV is through unprotected anal or vaginal sex, or the sharing of IV (hollow-hypodermic type) needles with an HIV+ person.
HIV is not the horrible nightmare virus portrayed during the 90s. It is actually much harder to acquire than most people would think, and is actually much more rare than most would realize. Less than 1% of the population is currently infected with HIV.
Further, HIV is extremely fragile and is soon inactive after leaving the body. Bottomline, you would not have acquired HIV from stepping on "period" blood, or by tracking it in to your living spaces. Your baby was not at risk of acquiring HIV from this dried "blood" stain.
