I went to medexpress today w a fever and sore throat. Tested positive for strep.
In the process the doctor there asked if I was in a monogamous relationship and sexually active.
I am not in a monogamous relationship. Im a gay man. I always use condoms for inter course but don't always use them for oral sex. The doctor proceeded to tell me that I was putting myself at risk for hiv and that if I kept getting sore throats I should think abt testing for hiv. According to what I've read on the expert forums here oral sex is considered zero risk. If I'm using condoms for intercourse am I being responsible? She made me feel like an irresponsible person. Is she just not up to date on research? Am I missing something?
Also, I was tested for hiv yesterday (I go periodically for routine testing) and am negative. I am taking prep as a preventative measure. Anyone have any input?
