the test is over 99% accurate if not close to 100. You swab your upper and lower gums, the swab picks up oral mucosal cells which would have AB to HIV. the test then tests for the presence or absence of these antibodies. there is a built in control, if no oral mucoasal cells are present, there will be neither a control nor a test line that shows up. Hope that helps, usually a positive test will show inb less than 10 mins, but wait 20.
No do NOT take saliva from the mouth.
Correct way is to rub the stick against the gums, doesn't matter upper or lower. Just don't rub the stick at the roof of the mouth. Best bet would be to rub it against gums. That's what I did, twice, thank God, results came back negative.
i just wanted to learn about the test, haven't done it. it just seems confusing because they say that u take the swab between the gums and lip (top& bottom). is this the correct area because they want to get cells from that area or does it simply take saliva from the mouth to test for the antibody?
Did you got ur own results or healthcare provider told you the results?
i certainly didn't mean to scare u...i was just curious. i just wanted to better understand how the test works and how someone knows if they got enough cells on the stick/swab? again, i'm assuming if the control arm appears that means there is enough...is that correct. i may get this done
