confusing test results.

Hi everyone
I am a 26 year old female.
I had a big risk about 2.5 years ago. It was unprotected vaginal (multiple times) with my ex bf.
I havent any other exposure since then.

I took an oraquick rapid test (saliva) at 2 years post exposure. It was negative.
At 2.5 years post exposure, I took a lab based blood draw. Its antibody test was reactive, but the western blot was completely negative.
Im still shocked with this recent result.

Please advise me on what to do next.
Can i trust the oraquick and western blot?

False positives happen, something in your body at the time triggers a false positive. You have 1 negative antibody test, you then have another confirmation test that is negative.

You don't have HIV.

I can't seem to get passed this, no matter how hard I try. I can't seem to accept that a reactive test will lead to a non reactive WB? How can this even happen? I know I had a negative rapid test, but still, is it normal to have an inital reactive blood test??

Thank you, Joggen.
My doctor did give me the same advice, but you feel much better when you hear it from other people as well.

The reason I tested again after the oraquick one was because I heard a lot of questioning on the tests' accuracy.

I appreciate your feedback.
I just wanted to know if the people on Medhelp would advise another test.
Thanks again

A negative Western Blot trumps a reactive ELISA. You simply were unfortunate enough to have a false positive result. Your doctor should have explained this to you. You don't have HIV.

Also, you should have stopped testing the first time as the test was completely reliable. The more that one tests unnecessarily, the more likely they will get a false positive result, because the probabilities are cumulative. Next time please accept your results the first time.
