HIV contraction in household/casual settings

Joggen, nursegirl, Lizzielou, Vance,

I called this morning to set up initial counseling about my phobia... That being said, I am still not convinced that my sons possible exposure was a non-risk... Unlikely, yes, but there are cases that have happened in a household setting, which is what we were in, being that we stayed there 3 nights. (And in the instances it occurred, blood was blamed, and they say sharing a razor may have been the cause... That being said, I have realized the odds of transmission would be extremely low... However, most of you, all of you, say that in order for blood to be the contagion, a large amount must be present, more than a couple of drops, and that it has to come in contact with another's open gaping wound!!! As you know, I do not know this subject like you... But who is correct? Wouldn't a razor cut have a minute, almost impossible to see with the naked eye, amount of blood on the blade!!!???

* Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusively negative results or a no-risk situation will be based upon the criteria established by MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
    * After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
    * Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
    * Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Oh heck no!!! I would never put fear into him!!! My fear is that I let him down by putting him at risk!!! That is the guilt that is eating at me right now, even though you all say 'NO RISK'!!! So, no, I have not mentioned one word around him... Thank you and Nursegirl for caring enough to share that concern!!! If I do get him tested, he will have no idea why...

Considering the number of posts that you have made on multiple forums, I agree with the doctors and nurses. But I also agree with NG- I hope you can do it in a way that doesn't pass on your fears to your son.

OMG.

I told you 50 posts ago to have your son tested if you needed to to move on.  Our docs here are also ID docs.  They didn't recommend testing.

Bottom line.....do what you need to do.  We're simply not going to keep discussing this with you.  I really hope you keep up with therapy.  Andm, I hope to GOD you haven't communicated ANY of your fears to your son.

Nothing more we can say. I would suggest your ID's might not be up to par because if you ask Teak about his ID's they will shoot straight and say something is no risk.

Joggen, I have been talking to an infectious disease doctor, my brothers... They welcome family calls and provide counseling, which you can see, I definitely need! As far as what they say, minimal risk! They will not tell me "No Risk"!!! And, as you are well aware, 'NO RISK" is what my paranoid mind wants/needs to hear... With my sons symptoms, they say not HIV related, which does help me a little... A therapist is calling me today... From what the doctor and nurses have said, they believe I will not be satisfied until I get my son tested... I want to let you know how it goes afterward and would like to hear back from you!!! Thank you.

Continuing to google this is only going to fuel your anxiety. There is too much crap information about HIV on the internet.

If you don't believe us, rather than trolling the internet and coming back to post here, I suggest you talk with an infectious disease specialist in person.

I'm glad that you made an appointment for counseling.

I have NO idea what a razor has to do with any of this...you never ONCE mentioned that in any of your prior posts.

I suggest you reread this...a few times.  Pay close attention to the doc's wanring about the risks to your son and brother if you continue on trying to convince yourself your son was at risk:

Thebody to be quite frank, is a joke.  EVERYTHING is a risk over there.  We've given you our assessment, and if I remember right, our doctor did too.  There's nothing else we can say.

Didn't you get an answer from our docs here?

Therapy is where you need to be.  What's this about a razor?  Wasn't your concern about your brother's scabs and your son putting his fingers in his mouth?

Teak, I got that info from a doctors post on "TheBody" forum... So, now you know more than a doctor?! I am not arguing, and I am not starting anything! I am looking for the truth, which obviously you do not agree with what was posted on another forum and answered by a real doctor!!!

I have no idea who you talked to but they don't know a thing about HIV transmission.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug abusers
Mother to child
