Probably Pos

I have recently been dating a guy and we just found out he is positive. He was shocked, I was shocked. Unfortunately, we had been having unprotected sex for 5 weeks prior to the date he found out. I was the "giver" 100% of the time. I had a test done immediately, but it was of course negative because I'm still in the window period. I also was diagnosed with a UTI in the middle of that time, which may or may not be an STD. About two weeks in, I got really sick with flu symptoms, the worst of which was a cough. But since my coworker also had a cough, I didn't think much of it. About 10 days into the flu I had oily discharge from my rear, which I thought was related to the medicine I had just started the day before. Looking back, now knowing that he is positive, this is all bad news. I had sex while I had an infection, while I was sick, and had what very well could be a seroconversion reaction.

I am considering getting a PCR test, but I'm not sure when I should do this. The last time we had unprotected sex was just a week ago, but the first time was 6 weeks ago. We have not been sexual this week at all-even protected. I can wait to do another anti-body test, but of course I would like to know as soon as possible.

Your test will be conclusive 3 months post exposure.

I understand that an elisa or western blot won't be conclusive until after 3 months. I'm specifically wondering about a pcr/RNA test. Since I'm obviously at high risk, should I have this done?

m a little surprised at the lack of response here. No offense to the other posters, but most of the questions here are on the paranoid side. I have actually been sexually active with someone who is positive....several times and all unprotected. I'm hoping to get some clarity on whether or not a RNA test is a good idea. I'm hoping that if I catch it while I'm in the window for the antibody test, there is some benefit with early detection.

Please be patient because not all of us are online 24/7.

The accuracy of PCR/RNA test is disputable. You'd better stick to Elisa.
