Question about a partners prior history.

Hello, and happy new year. I am currently in a new relationship with a girl I really like.  We took things slowly and are having unprotected sex. We had a conversation about past partners and we trust one another that we aren't seeing anyone else. Everything was good, but suddenly I think I have the flu and it started my mind down a bad path.  Her last partner (actually her ex husband) was a heroine user. Supposedly he only smoked it. But now I'm concerned that maybe he was using needles. We only slept together a few times. Three weeks ago was the first time. I know I have been testes about a year ago. But I don't know her testing status.  She is very nice and I don't want to hurt her feelings so I don't know how to bring it up. But I've been reading and I'm worried I have ars, the early flu symptoms.  I also read I have to wait to test.  But I'm really freaking out.  Any advice would help alot. Thanks for listening.  Sorry to ramble on so long.

Thanks for responding. I am unfortunately traveling for the next 3 weeks so it will have to be immediately upon my return.  At least it gives me a little space for now. Thanks again

Testing is a good idea for both of you.

Just go get yourself done and while you're at it talk to your doctor about options.

The best test is a 4th gen HIV test.  You will have to ask for it by name.  Otherwise, your option is a PCR test.   A 4th gen will detect as soon as 3 weeks after an exposure.  A PCR will detect as soon as 2 weeks.   Since you are having unprotected sex, none of them can be considered conclusive even if you wait 4 weeks or longer.

Now as far as what do in the relationship, you could start using a condom.

And you can say it's because you don't want to get her pregnant.  "My boys are extremely potent, according to the doctor," you say.   Then you can mention you were also tested for other things like HIV and STDs.

Then you can point out everyone should be tested.   And see if she is willing to test.   Use a lot of humor.

But use the condom, until you can confirm her status.

Be well
